Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | OFC II #4 arrived this afternoon in pristine condition and WOW! WHAT A GUITAR! It looks like a Stealth Fighter and plays like a Stradivarius. This is a fabulous guitar. Set Neck, Contour Hand laid Fiberglass bowl, brushed nickel open back Sperzel tuners,OP Pro (NO DUMMY PLUG NEEDED), db Boost switch, two COA's, Vibrometer printout...and much more...These must be played and seen to be believed...they are that good! This is now my #1 guitar...I love it!
Al went way out on a limb to have these built...this is the finest example of the newer technology the factory has...a surreal guitar! If you ever planned to have a custom Adamas guitar this may be your last chance: esp. at this price! I know the economy is tough but where there's a will there's a way...I know! It's worth whatever you have to give up or sacrifice! When these are gone, they are GONE..."if ya catch my meaning, if you get my drift"...
Also got the iDea preamp for a little extra change...best price anywhere! I'll get around to it soon.
Thanks so much Al! Mr. Big really delivered!
I will post pic's when we have some sunshine...(what else is new). |

BTW, we had a blast that day... |

Location: Texas | Congratulations Mike,
As I have said in the past, if I was to spec out _my_ ideal guitar, it would be identical to the OFC II. I really, really want one, but it's still out of reach for me, (and Al knows I tried…) Despite my notoriously poor judgment, no guitar is worth selling my soul to Mr. Visa.
However, "settling" for a 2080 has certainly not been a disappointment for me at all, it's a marvelous guitar, and I feel very fortunate to own one. I justify it by telling myself that the OFC II is "just" a 2080 on steroids anyway… ;)
I just can't believe there are any left. Please, somebody buy them so the rest of us can stop reading Al's "still available" posts and constantly rekindling our GAS… ;) |

Let me amend what I said: In this economy, I certainly do not recommend maxing out a credit card w/no plan how to pay it off...of course not...but since, like me, so many have more guitars than we can play, this is a guitar to sacrifice for...just a thought on making this a reality...
anyway, it worked for me and Al was patient enough to allow it to come to fruition...I'm happy for that! |

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | Brad, I have the readout for the 47RI: it's an 86 and the OFC II is a 93...TnT has both I and II...maybe he can shed more light... |

Any of the OFC II Wideneck owners want to toss up their numbers? |

Somebody want to explain how to read these? |

Here are my charts:

OFC II #4:
Dave knows how to read these and I thought I did but again, my memory is not as good as it used to be... |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | Thanks, Tim. That first report on OFC I No. 5 is mine, but it remains all geek to me. I know we had some engineers explain these readings when we first posted them a few years ago, and the bottom line was that the differences between the various OFC I models were insignificant to the human ear. I'm just curious if the differences between the I and II models are still insignificant. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | 1. The guitar top is vibrated through a range of frequencies basically from 20Hz to 20,000Hz. Perhaps the range is bigger, but that's the only part that is plotted.
2. As the guitar top vibrates, the amount of actual deflection (top movement) is measured. This is measured as a "distance" from the top of the guitar to the measurement device. A laser is used to measure the distance. Hence laser + vibrating top = laser vibrometer. The test (ie distance) is set to ZERO when the top is at rest.
3. As the vibration is swept from 20Hz to 20,000Hz (also know as 20KHz) the distance of the top movement is measured and plotted. The point on the X (bottom) axis at which the top deflects the most is called the "fundamantal frequency"
4. The X axis is in LOG format, so the actual values of each vertical line from left to right are as follows: 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100 then 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, 1000 then 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000, 8000, 9000, 10000 then 20000, 30000 etc.
So reading Mikes photos I would say that the 47RI peaks out at around 85Hz. And the OFCII peaks out at a little over 100Hz.
It actually tells you the number right on the plot (83.8Hz and 106.8Hz, respectively) so my visual interpretation isn't too far off.
Mike you said your OFCII is a 93Hz? I don't see that from the plot. |

Dave, thanks for the lesson in chart reading...I for one am glad the answer is printed on the chart... |

I'm just curious if the differences between the I and II models are still insignificant. They sound nothing alike, the 2080 is a different animal.
who was the guy that thought about using those sperzel machines? he must be a genius!!!!!! These are the coolest tuners...and ya don't have to worry about everyone leaving acid fingerprints to burn into the gold plating

Location: Texas | Very nice photos MM! I think that is one of the most attractive, modern, and impressive-looking Ovation/Adamas guitars ever produced. It belongs on the cover of Acoustic Guitar magazine!
If any of you lucky owners of an OFC II ever decide you would like to trade for BOTH a 2080 AND a 1598-MEII… please PM me first… ;)
Has anyone posted any recordings of an OFC II? |

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | I bought a Roland Micro-Cube; the little thing is unreal...Running the OFC II thru it on the acoustic setting is incredible: I have a little chorus and reverb dialed in and mixed with the acoustic sound of the guitar it sounds great...Lots of fun! I'm going to mic it and do some recording of the sound...Anybody other than Tim (TnT) tried one yet? |

I have a MicroCube and a CubeStreet, plus another NIB MicroCube for a spare.
They are great little toys.
Every setting you will need for a little 2 watt amp. (The CubeStreet is 5w)
But for those of you that haven't tried one... The MicroCube is pretty LOUD for 2 watts.
Back in the ole daze, everybody had Pig-noses...
Now everyone has Cubes! |

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | OMA, I have an original Pignose...but the wiring needs to be gone thru...I did a festival concert years ago where we had to wait to set up and didn't have much space so I used the Pignose miked and direct thru the big house PA w/a Gibson w/p90's and an ole Washburn Stack-in-the-Box...people kept looking for the Marshall stack...lol...they couldn't believe the sound out of that small box...I liked how you could change the sound by opening the back of the cab: closed, partially open, full open...great stuff and fun...
The Micro is so versatile...really not so much a toy if you run it direct or mike it... |

Pretty stinkin cool for something you can slap a few batteries in and carry around on a shoulder strap while you play. |

Thanks Al for the great price and Tim for showing it to me in the first place... OFC II and iDea: Add the Roland Micro Cube and it's a jam ready package to take anywhere...Very Cool! |
