Why did Ovation stop making the original solid body vipers?
This is just one example of where the line could have gone. Heck, I don't play much electric but I would certainly buy this!

The better question is why were the solid bodies not commercially successful? Not good guitars? Wrong design for peoples taste at the time? Over priced? Poorly marketed?
There's lots of examples of products like this over the years (musical and not) that dispite being technically good products just never caught on. |

....Years ago even Martin tried their hand at electrics (I've seen a hollowbody much like a ES335)that never caught on.

I had some Mothership trash can Paduak that was cut for Epaulets (2005 Factory Tour?) so I had to toss it in with a bit of Ebony.
The body is still unfinished and cabinet scraper clean. |

A 12 string with a single in the bridge will be really bright sounding, maybe too much so. Put a firebird pickup in it, maybe two and forget the neck mounted one, just two bird pus in the normal spots. |

Location: Upper Left USA | I have the Neck mount HB at 7.5 resistance and an Artec Alnico 5 HB at 8.7. I am really curious how the Single will sound if placed between the normal Bridge and mid position.
Firebird Pups sound interesting. Aren't they two stacked windings over a Rail/Blade magnet?
Also want to play with a .0047 micro farad Cap and ON/ON switch for a "Ric" tone.
And yes, no PG to block the view... |

Location: NW Washington State | I've read that Firebird pickups have individual bar magnets inside each coil- but still have two small side-by-side coils, not stacked. The typical mini humbucker with adjustable polepieces has a single magnet underneath both coils.
I have some pickups you could try, but nothing gold colored if that's what you're using. Or are those parts chrome?

Location: Upper Left USA | I'm trying to find a can of Koa at Home Depot.
The "base" for the Koa top is a Loovely one piece Maple that someone routed for some ungodly reason.
The Body will get Lacquer with a slight amber tint. I can't decide if I'll oil the neck or grab the same tone cuz I prefer the oiled necks. |
