Before you ask, I did search but came up with a ga-zillion refferences.
Search on strings results....
1) Moody telling someone to do a search
2) Al don't use them
3) String Tubes (patent pending)
4) Trader Jim sells a guitar before it needs a new set of strings.

So... don't bitch.
Just give me the name of a good / cheap place to buy strings online and then you can get on with your busy day.

And... thanks.

I concur with both suggestions. Just get on their mail lists for some occasional nice specials.

I agree with Bobbo. I've actually been there. Saw their sign and laughed at the idea of someone selling just strings. Thought it was a guitar store until I went inside and saw everyone sitting in their cubicles. But they let me buy strings there even though they would prefer to sell on-line. Best prices I have found.

The Bay. Best deal ever seen (other than freebies) was 25 sets of EJ16s for about $88. I lost it by a few dollars.

Strings&Beyond or JustStrings, whoever has the best deal-of-the-moment.

Next time, do a freakin' search, I might not be so charitable...oh, you DID do a search. Loser.

(at least I didn't call you a moron)

I generally try to buy locally from a Ma & Pa shop. Their string and pick prices are close enough to internet pricing that it doesn't make any significant difference to me, and its an excuse to go yak with the folks about guitars and maybe pull something interesting off of the wall to test drive.

The small shops are really struggling, and they need all the support they can get. They just can't compete with the internet on the price of guitars or amps, so they are on the verge of being run out of business. I like the idea of supporting a local business and having that resource there.

I've tried that. But the only local M&P store has nada and they weren't real enthusiastic about ordering strings that might not sell. Then there's Smash that never has what I'm looking for...

I've bought strings from American Musical Supply. They will match prices if you're willing to take the time to search, send them the competitor's URL, and wait for their response in your email. Worthwhile if you're going to stock up. They have a relatively small selection of the most popular strings. I got started with them because they have a good price on gaffer's tape.

I like their strings and they're consistently the least expensive deal on the web.

I've been buying 10 packs of ej16s on Amazon for about $43 after tax and everything.

Ma and Pa are great, but the last retail (non-guitar center) I went to wanted $15 for a pack. I just waited til I got home. I'm on a pretty tight budget these days

Thanks everyone.
I just ordered 10 sets. Kinda a "what the hell", impulse kind of selection.

Some Daddarios 8o/20 and some phosphor bronze
A set of daddario electic half round for the VXT
A set of Silk & Steel
A set of acoustic Rotosound strings to see if it improves my British Invasion Tunes.
And a set of uke strings.

I'll try to act real surprised Christmas morning.

I wasn't going to give anyone a specific pat on the back but since you ask... yes Bobbo... I followed your advice.
Not that the other suggestions weren't appreciated tho.

I wanted to experiment with a few different flavors this time.
When I find a type I am willing to commit to, I'll buy them in bulk.

Kool thread, Brad. It inspired me to order some DR colored coated strings for about 1/2 of what they want for them 100 miles from me where and when they are available

I like DR strings in general and especially those DR colored strings ... the black ones are very cool on my 2007BCS and they have lasted and lasted. I just ordered some more, including a set of the silver coated ones to put on a special all stealth guitar I have coming.

Ooooo.
Maybe I'll place another little order with Elderly.

GWB... I did the math. The amount of my recent traderious string purchase amounts to approximatly 0.0136 percent of what I have spent at Huber.

Okay... Are y'all getting a little Kick-Back from these corporations?
You should Be!

As much as I hate Amazon, cuz they don't take PayPal,
I bought a 10pk of EJ16's for $39 with Free shipping...

Not that I needed strings... But it is very reassuring to HAVE them if you want them.

Guitar Center has that deal on again where you buy 10 sets of D'Adds for $100 and get a free Silvertone guitar. I guess that means the guitar costs $61. I may buy the strings and give the guitar to my nephew.

OMA.

They would have been cheaper with the coupon code from Elderly, but your Elderly order does need to be over $89 to qualify for free shipping ($25 with Amazon.) I guess it depends on how many you need… ;)
