Location: Boise, Idaho | Portland for traditional turkey, cranberry stuff, pumpkin pie, etc., except we'll be staying at my brother's new house that he's been working on for years. Winery tour on Friday or Saturday.
I may have to walk down to the nearby McMinneman's (where we met up with gh1 and dvd a few years ago) for some excercise.
For some Ovation content, I'll be taking my daughter's 83 Collector to her, that she left in Portland the last time she was there, and picking up my Custom Balladeer, that has been on loan to other daughter's former boyfriend for a year or so. |

| Well so far, I plan on being a driver for the Equinox Thanksgiving Day dinner. It is an amazing sight -- thousands of people show up early Thanksgiving morning to deliver meals to the homebound. I've done it for years and cannot think of not doing this on Thanksgiving.
Around 4:00 p.m., my family will gather for dinner. By this time, it will be the second meal of the day for my brothers and their families. We'll have turkey with all the trimmings, plus a few pies. And I'll get a little guitar strumming in also!

We'll be driving to Denver at about noon to have dinner at the wife's uncle's house, then back home around 8:00 or so. Nothing too exciting here.
I hope you all have good weather and safe travel over the holiday (even in Denmark ;) ) |

Says she doesn't get any in the nursing home. I asked her "Are you sure, no turkey?", she said "Not when I can have your homemade pizza!". You gotta love mom. Of course I'll play her a song or two, she loves to humm harmonies to the tunes. Life is good ! |

(This makes it easier for my kids, too, as they both can feast with the in-laws "guilt-free." ;) )
I'm sure we'll have the obligatory turkey and such, and I'm hoping my sister will make her absolutely killer cinnamon-walnut coffee cake--now, that's something worth driving for!

Location: Michigan | Well, to start off the biggest thing is having my 2 kids home from college for a week. That should be great fun. On turkey day we are off to my sis-in-laws house for a family gathering for my wifes side. She has 9 siblings, so counting spouses, children, spouses of children and children of children we have breached the 40 person mark. Chaos and fun. We have the same group at our house for Chrismas Eve (and we are already preparing)
Hopefully everyone has a safe and happy couple of days off work (unless you live in Michigan--you are most likely already off of work). |

Plus, my 20 yr old daughter's boyfriend will be here.

| Nothing here, or with any other members of the close friends and family here in FL.... Brevard County is dead and dying, unemployment is REALISTICALLY at about 20% or higher, and it's all any of us can do just to keep the lights on and the rent paid. We have hundreds of families here living in public parks, campgrounds, and wooded areas that have lost their homes, or been evicted from their apartments and rental homes which the owners were not paying the mortgages on.
Char and I are waiting on our Food Stamp determination.... but that won't be until after Thanksgiving. We might be joining Slydog and his friend Lori, but they're in the same boat, and just sold the 1778-T for fuel for the Truck and to pay the rent.
My Family up North is doing a little better, but mom lost her house and had to move up to Milwaukee, close to my sister Jen, Sister Val is doing ok in a stagnant town called Hamilton! OH, with NO INDUSTRY left... Brother Mike who used to be a Senior administrator for MCI is now unloading produce trucks for Kroger.....
so much for voting for change... we got it...
except it was just nickels, dimes, and pennies.

You're welcome, Todd! I started doing it for a purely selfish reason -- I couldn't stand the nastiness of Black Friday and figured that doing some volunteer work on Thanksgiving would combat that.
I've gotten back more than I've given. The people who receive the food are generally really glad to have someone stop by and talk to them.

And they ain't sharing.
This leaves the rest of us to try and help-out those less fortunate.
Here is something that I have learned in life...
Everybody who has EVER picked me up Hitch-hiking has hitch-hiked before themselves.
90% of the people who give money to the poor have been poor themselves.
If you are asking for spare-change, poor people will give you all the money in their pocket...
Cuz they have been there, and are not far from being there again!
Rich people don't give money away... That is how they stay rich. (yes, there are exceptions)
The Rich people are worried about the stock market. The poor people are worried about jobs.
Poor people don't care about the stock market, they never had a dog in that fight anyway.
Poor people are just happy if they have all their bills paid so the won't get evicted.
I don't know what I will be doing for Thanksgiving...
But I'm gonna ask the women in my building what they are doing.
They might be preparing a community meal of some sort. They usually do...
So I will pitch-in some food or money, and let the people who know how to cook be creative and feed the 160 people in my building.
Thanksgiving is the one day when we try to make sure everybody in America has One Good Meal.
(Come about January, after the Holidays, everybody will forget about the poor folks 'til next year) |

We have been there a lot lately...except for less than 24 hours, my wife was with our daughter for seven weeks as my son-in-law was still at Central Command. We are within two months of having our granddaughter...tough pregnancy, SO MUCH to be thankful for...
In the past, I, as a young Marine, have been invited to a caring family for dinner. My Battalion, when I was in Portland, reciprocated by turning our center into a huge mess hall for those that needed a family (helped that I had a Marine who was head chef for the Vet. hospital. We all do out part, now cash for organizations.
We don't stop...I have a staff that contributes all I pay to an American VFW post in the Philippines that brings doctors (contributing their time and expertise) to do surgery for cleft lip and palate. He has gone over to do anything he can. I have given him cash to make up funding shortages. We actively support Toys for Tots, a Marine Corps effort throughout the year to assist families with Christmas gifts, as well as literacy efforts.
I take some exception to Arthur, I see the charitable and tax support that those considered wealthy ($250,000 per our current administration) give or are taxed. They pay approximately 70% of our taxes. I hope they stay healthy, wealthy, and wise. |

Anita It sounds like you're going to have fun where you are at.
It is actually a lot of fun, but I have to get up early to do so. I usually get there about 7:00 a.m. and already there will be a huge line of people ready to volunteer.
One year I also worked at the preparation of the meal also. They start cooking the turkeys the weekend before Thanksgiving and freeze the dinners. It's quite an operation they have.
I used to volunteer at a soup kitchen during other parts of the year, but our church is no longer involved with it. I'm seriously thinking of finding another soup kitchen or food bank to volunteer at.
Here is a little info on the dinner: http://www.equinoxinc.org/thanksgiving_day.html
The amounts of food used is staggering!
