They will restring one guitar, any make, for free.
Here's the question...
Do I take the UTE or the AD-II??? |

Wear a disguise the second time, maybe a wig and coconuts? |

They both could use a change. |

Location: south east Michigan | I've just past some kind strange milestone.
I couldn't find my UTE.
It took me ten minutes of looking around the house to find my UTE.
.
.
It's official.... I have to many guitars.
Now that I found it, the UTE is sounding pretty strong.
I think I'll take the AD-II. |

| I would ask the following:
Why does Martin have crappy sounding guitars at $800 price range when you can buy an Ovation at that price and have it sound much better than the Martin?
Or -- When are you going to bring back the Stinger? :D

I'm going to take the high road. I'm even going to leave my Ovation denim shirt in the closet. |

Here's a free offer: send me all your guitars and I'll restring them.
Actually, that goes for anybody.
legal disclaimer: I didn't say anything about returning them. |

Location: south east Michigan | Well, it was not so much a clinic as it was a dog & pony show. Not that there's anything wrong with that. It was entertaining, informative and I heard quite a few nice guitars and played one or two.
Turns out one of the guys (I'm not sure if he was the dog or the pony...), worked at Ovation for a number of years.
I got there kinda late and did not get my AD-II restrung. I didn't even take it out of the case.
The guys were very good musicians. Flatpickin' Bluegrass. I found myself amazed about how many songs you can get out of C, G, and F. After they got good & warmed up they even did E7, A7, B7. Alot of interesting and fancy lead work that rarly got up past the 3rd fret. But that's where Martins really shine, isn't it? |

He's been doing Martin Clinics for years. Richard re-strung my Folklore back in July of this year at a Martin Clinic in Bellevue, WA. He also adjusted the truss rod, fine tuned the nut slots and dialed in the saddle... all the while telling me stories about what it was like working for Ovation back in the day. One heck-of-a nice guy. While Richard worked on my Folklore, Larry Barnwell (the NW Martin Sales Rep) restrung my Martin M3M. When they say bring your guitar in for a restring, they mean ANY guitar. And they never make fun of it, no matter what kind it is. They're not snobs, just good people. :) |

Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | Thanks for the link, Slater. After reading it I noticed it was written by Orrin Star, another musician I used to know back in the day. He played with a guy named Gary Mehalic who was a friend of a friend. And the mention of Bill Hall REALLY took me back. His cousin Fred Etheridge was one of my best friends, and eventually they formed a band together. After losing touch with Fred over the years, I got invited to his 50th birthday party. It was a surprise and he didn't know I was coming. I walked in with my old black Legend held up in front of my face so he couldn't see me, and sure enough, he recognized that round back and knew it was me. I got a chance to play with the band, and Bill Hall was blown away when I told him I had been a fan for years. At that point he was getting old and had lost a step or two, but he was still a great banjo player. What a trip down memory lane! Thanks! |
