I have to ask this. All I see in Big Box stores and every where else you can buy a guitar are the cheap Cleb's and nothing else.
Is ovation done for or are there other places to buy one.
I own 3,lost 1, and cant see the a 4TH unless I can see and play one.
I guess Guitar Center has not stocked them for awhile....

In general the big box stores and mail order outlets concentrate on lower end ovations becuase they can turnthem over quickly. It's all about inventotory turns. The the higher end models you need to seek out a specialized dealer like Lost Art Vintage Instruments.

Don't blame Ovation, it's the stores that decide what products they will sell and it is based upon what they can move quickly. This may disappoint you (and me), but keep in mind that for every one OFC member that will pony up for a new Custom Legend, there are 500 people out there that snatch up the lower end models.

The plain fact is that the higher end Ovation models just do not sell. Even Al, who is the #1 Adamas dealer in the country, go look at his inventory. He has been sitting on 2008 Adamas Collectors since (duh) 2008. I think he still has 1687 Reissues. And he even has Blow Hole Koa's that don't move.

hold it dave not all of the stuff I have is because they don't move

I bought out the remaining inventory of 1687 guitars

and I bought out the remaining 08 collectors
I sold one last week.

the reason for this is I believe in the instruments and know that they are of the highest quality and it may take the rest of the world a little longer to catch up .

My local ma & pop store is still sitting on an '06 collector. And this is a guy who in the past has stocked & displayed the Milleniums, the 30th Aniversery, and the AD-II.

We've been hashing, re-hashing, and teeth nashing over this issue for years now and it just does not seem to get any better.

Al, my point was that these guitars should be sold out with long waiting lists for people that want them. There should have never been any remaining inventory. Anyway, like Slip said we've been over this too many times to even remember. If a buyer does not like the selection in his local GC then he should complain to the store manager. It's not ovations fault.

I make a point of mentioning it every time I go into my local GC and have emailed GC directly about it (although I think stock is largely decided on locally). And I do this knowing full well that I probably wouldn't buy one there anyway. I would LOVE to walk in play a higher end O or - God forbid! - an Adamas, then order one from Al but, in reality, if everyone did that, you'd end up with exactly what you have now. Supply follows demand.

I was surprised when I went into a local shop today; they actually had a US Ovation on the wall. The mom and pop store where I bought my LX in 2006(?) never restocked it and they only hang Celebs.

No Applauses to be seen either. Can't buy high and can't buy low.

Apple Music still has a 1991 Adamas 1681 for $1400, and that may be negotiable.
He has had it for a year or so.
[He will ship, ask me for his email... mention my name and I will get some free strings]

Not only that but I havn't seen a lot of advertising from Ovation for the higher end O's in many of the guitar magazines. Saw a big push there for a while for the new "Idea", but even that has tapered off. In my opinion you have to get the products to the front, and get them in peoples hands to move them. I have a 6778 LX vn that I wouldn't trade for any Martin or Taylor that I have ever played. Would love to see them step up their advertising efforts a little more.

That's a good point. Seems ovation doesn't have a lot of long term sustainability to their hype. VXT was the big thing, seems like that is dead. iDea was the next big thing. Don't hear much about that any more. Seems like the only thing they keep pumping on a consistent basis is the nikki sicks bass. They must sell a lot of those, I guess.
