Location: Texas | Being an Ovation fan for over 30 years and having used them live and in the studio for so many years, I have enjoyed many experiences with great players that like me, have loved them and also many snobs that hate them and think they are inferior for whatever reason, but I know what I like and since playing the first Balladeer a friend of mine had, I have loved them because they are...different.
So, I discover the OFC on line looking for information about Adamas models and players.
Lurked for awhile and really enjoyed many posts, specially the ones by my dear friend Cliff. :)
And when I joined, he was the first one to welcome me with open arms, thanks buddy!
And you?
 ;) |

Soon I realized this would be a great group to hang around with even if it weren't for our common interest.
Just wish I could attend more of the gatherings that have taken place. |

For a very very short time (hours?) Ovation had a link to the OFC on their webpage. I followed it, joined right away, lurked for a couple of weeks and started posting. I still highly recommend to newbies that they spend several days going thru the archives. Not only will they learn something, they'll have a great time as well! |

Don't really remember how I found the site but probably Googled looking for information on my 1st Ovation that I bought in '76.
This site has given me lots of good times and cost me a LOT of money! |

It wasn't until I overpaid for a Celeb that I came back and was lured into major OGAS. I may have paid too much for the 057 but I've more than gotten my money's worth being here, other than spending even more avoiding the 12-step anti-OGAS program! |

I was trying to find out info on getting the neck on my Ultra fixed (the Urelite had bowed) and a web hit sent me here. I got good advice, but what hooked me was when Moody started talking about sports cars in the driveway. Sorta been around ever since. I was doubly hooked when I went to the first factory tour and met people for real ... and discovered that my beloved Hamer was also part of the family. |

(picked up a couple awesome takamines, by association, along the way too!) i spend too much time here but it is often a nice respite from the rigors of daily child rearing. |

After a 30 year lapse in guitar buying I was looking for a beater that I would not have to worry about. Believe it or not, it was that blue MOB that sparked the GAS attack. Found the OFC in a Google search.
There was no lurking... no hesitation. I jumped right in.
Oh what a ride it has been!! |

Whilst going thru the trials & tribs of my divorce, I had JUST gotten my Adamas back from my ex-wife.
I had been researching it’s potential “value” for insurance purposes (and “possible” sale).
MandolinBros. had dimed-me-off, completely (asswipes).
The Ovation webpage was useless, but this WAS during that Brief, Shining Moment when they had a “Link” t’Here.
Since I first SAW the guitar in ’76, I was led to believe that it was prototype #20 out of 28 guitars.
I posted “My Story”, naively listed my daytime number, and asked for any info anyone might have . . .
20 MINUTES LATER, my office phone rings, and the guy on the other end says
“. . Cliff?? . . . Bill Kaman, here . . . “
Thinking it was some Internet F@ckTard having a piss with me, I think I told him to “F@ckOff” & hung up.
When he called me right back, & started explaining the guitar, I nearly shat myself.
We chatted/joked for a good half-hour.
I met Al, Miles, and HerrKeller at a Jersey GuitarShow a couple weeks later . . .
GoodTimes Ever Since. |

Our records show that you joined on January 4th, 2006 in the early afternoon. It was a Wendsday so we can only figure it was a slow day a work.
My guess is that you stumbled across the OFC while looking for signage for your music room. |

| Like Cliff, after my divorce and prying my 2 old guitars from my ex, I decided to get back into playing after nearly 20 years of on-again-off-again noodling. Unlike Cliff, all I had was an old Matrix I'd picked up along the way.
After a little over a year of trying to improve my playing, and getting back on my feet financially (damn lawyers - sorry Mark and Mitch), I decided to upgrade my guitar. I Googled to get info about the Matrix & wound up here in 2006, where I developed major GAS pains.
Lurked for awhile and was welcomed by Jason who answered a technical question I posted. Been hanging around since. Met some great people & have had some memorable times as a result. |

Here is my post from then:
I was frustrated with my playing, acoustic, electric, bass. So, after playing out one night, the next day loaded up some "Stuff" and went in search of one guitar. Traded for a Legend. I knew Ovations existed, but really did not know anything about them. The guy I traded with said it was one of the best sounding guitars he had. He has over 900 guitars in his shop. So I traded. Worried all the way home that I had messed up, but now love my "O".
In trying to find out about my Legend, I stumbled on the OFC. The rest is history. I now have 4 O's. So much for "one guitar" |

I had also started playing with ebay for the first time and wound up with a Celebrity Deluxe I didn't really know anything about. I had seen the 99 Collector's on ebay, but it was an example of how not to list a guitar, so I googled Ovation. The OFC comes up before Ovation Guitars, so that's how I found this place.
A former member had Custom Balladeer for sale, so I bought that and some guy who went by CWKII said I would probably appreciate the Classic I asked about, so I bought that etc. etc. |

I have enjoyed the repartee immensely, and tried to contribute when I could. Promulgated some myths, contributed to the lexicon, and formed splinter groups.
Attended 2 gatherings, thus far, and probably resurrected close to 25 Ovation "critters", sending them, literally, around the globe.
I count many of you among my friends, colleagues, and mentors, and am truly grateful for the opportunities.

Interesting how sometimes one little tweek of a decision can lead you to unexpected things.
Way back in 1970 when buying my first acoustic it came down to a choice between a Fender or an Ovation. Imagine all the fun and friends I would have missed out on if I had went with the Fender. |

Lurked because I wanted to avoid a site that had mainly guys that had been protesting others like my self that signed up for the Marine Corps in 1968. Sure, there are some here with a regretable past :p but most of the members seemed to be right out of the cast of Animal House. :p A diverse group brought together by guitars, a few I have met, many that I consider friends even if we have never met. |

I wish I could say it was because of the way they sound, but my ears just aren't that fussy. I just like them! But I got tired of music store salesmen telling me they suck. I was beginning to think there was something wrong with me!
Thank goodness for OFC! I found out that I wasn't just a lone oddball, and that there were many other oddballs just like me. Phew! What a relief! I greatly enjoyed going on the very first factory tour in 2003, meeting CWK2 (a.k.a. Mauvais Beal) and all the other members, not to mention winning the very first raffle (FD14 lucky #13). I also learned a wealth of information about Ovations (and Hamers) that I wouldn't have learned anywhere else.
It was one of the best internet searches I ever did! Thanks, Al and Miles! |

In the Ovation website was a link to the OFC and decided to check it out too. After lurking for a while, I eventually joined.
It was a pleasant surprise ... I was greeted and accepted, almost immediately! I will never forget Brad (Slipkid) and Fred (mtnbikerfred) for they were the first two members who welcomed me here. I've been hanging around ever since. I'm even more thankful for having/had the opportunity to meet and play along with fellow members during the '06 and '07 OFC conferences that I attended. Some even made it beyond the tour by getting together with fellow members in my local area from time to time.
Definitely one of the best boards that I had ever joined! :) |

I have met some fantastic folks here...many are now friends who call or email just to lift me up or chew the fat...the gatherings have been a blast. Finally got to meet Beal and tell him how much the company and product have meant to me and still do...That was Cool!

Wow, is this ever the truth. Sitting in a high school biology class, I had pretty girls sitting at the desks on either side of me, a blonde and a brunette. I wrote out a quick "want to go out with me next Saturday night?" note and started to hand it to the blonde on my left (my preference as it was all part of the surf scene) and just as she started to take it, she blew a huge bubble from her bubble gum. I pulled back on the note and thought to myself, no freakin' way she's blowing bubbles on the new upholstery I just installed in my '57 Ford so I turned to the brunette watching all this and handed her the note. Four years later we were married. |
