The Smithereens Play Tommy

Not sure if anyone here is a fan of the Smithereens but they are a darn good band in their own right and had a few radio hits.

Lately they have taken to doing cover albums of other bands. The latest is their take of "TOMMY" by the Who.

Interesting.....I liked it and actually purchased the 96K high definition version of the CD.

Blood and Roses is the first song of theirs I remember hearing and I've always thought it was pretty good. My favorite song (in my limited knowledge of their repertoire) is A Girl Like You.

96K huh? My 10 year old Sony ES receiver will do 48K. You must possess some newer (and better) stuff than I do.

Thanks for the tip on the music--I'd like to check it out.

The Smithereens did Meet The Smithereens, a track by track cover of the Meet The Beatles album. It was quite good, and even had a Smithereens feel to it despite being vitually note-by-note exactly like the originals.

I saw them again about two years ago in a small club in SF. It was a great show. They still have it. I'm going to have to give a listen to the Tommy recording. But I'd much rather listen to a new Smithereens album of originals. I'm a huge fan of their songs.

I agree about the "Meet The Smithereens" cd. A pretty cool version of "Meet The Beatles".

I wonder how many bands would be talented enough to pull off the "copy" material like they do.

I would love to see them live but if they have come through Denver I obviously missed them.

Actually my preamp (Theta Casablanca) is almost 13 years old but it is fully upgradeable which has helped keep it current with new technologies.
