gh1 It plays very easy as it's a short scale, it sounds better than I thought it would, actually better than any other guitar I've had, and you can see it has killer looks. I've only had about a half hour with it as we're getting ready for camping, but from what I've seen, it's a very special guitar. |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | 8I'm not into the whole "this brand vs that" cause frankly any brand at any price point can have it's duds, or just guitars that do or don't interest people... but I will share this..
One artist I was recording back east had a Taylor and it sounded great. I don't know the model, but I do recall it costing a lot. It looked great and in the hands of the artists it sounded great. He really knew how to make in sing. He used an aftermarket pre-amp that he had installed as well.
It was only a couple of years old, and one day while recording I heard a noise like a mic rattling. It turns out the back had cracked. likely due to weather, bringing it in and out of the cold. Warm house, cold car, colder air, warm studio or gig, play it a couple of hours, back into the cold air.. back into the warm house... and it was also his main gigging guitar. I then remembered why any acoustic I ever owned (cept for an old Seville) is an Ovation.
There are lots of great looking and great sounding guitars out there, but for me, it's more than looks and sound, and for the life of me I can't understand why they even make wood box guitars still. |

We have the technology. We don't have to be killing rare trees for pretty wood.
We could be making guitars that consistently sound good in all (or most) weather conditions.
[Yes, I realize that most of my guitars are made outta wood...
Or at least have a healthy amount of wood in them. :cool: ] |

Location: South of most, North of few | To answer the question of price for the 30th, lets just say it was rather high, although I thought I got a steal on it. I really love the look, sound,and feel of a good woodbox, but Miles is right, they are not as tolerant to temp extremes as an Adamas, Ovation, CA, Rainsong, etc..Which brings me to this: WHY DID THEY EVER STOP MAKING THE ACADEMY?? That my friends is one of the best sounding guitars to ever come from the O factory at any price, and at the price they sold for, THE best bang for the buck, PERIOD. |

Well, duh! What was he thinking? With a guitar like that, you're only supposed to hang it on the wall of your properly humidified and temperature controlled room, show it to your friends (but don't let them touch it - can't have any marks on it!), dust it weekly with a virgin baby diaper, and discuss the merits of its tone and dynamics whilst knitting doilies around the stove.
P.S. Nice looking guitars, TJ. I do believe Taylors makes some nice guitars. But you really have to hunt for the ones with the soul. Hope you've got a couple that have it in spades. |
