It was a great experience to meet Glen.

He said "Ovation, oh yeah I used to have one of those".
After he played a couple of riffs on it he said, "That's a nice guitar boy, look after that!"

Yikes!! Somebody scribbled on your new guitar!!

I saw your pic of you and The Man on your ning page. Cool stuff. What was Glen's reaction to seeing his old guitar?

EDIT: I hate posting something a nanosecond after the Great Carnac has already anticipated my question ....

AJ, some people around may have thought you had gone off the (Ovation) deep end but seeing you with "The Man" holding his/your guitar is a whole new level of adventure!

THAT IS FRICK'N AWESOME DUDE!

Now, where's Jim Messina these days...

Bob, I was in two minds about that so I got him to sign the back as well.
I figured he did own it at one stage so he was entitled to autograph it.

He's showing his 73 years and certainly not as sharp as he could be but was very charming and gracious.

What a super cool story, AJ! Like Ali said, EXCELLENT!

And he used a blue sharpie to sign it, too!

Paul, I suspect his memory of that time in his life is a bit hazy.

He did say to John, (I think his sound guy, who has been with him for 30+ years)
"Don't I still have one of those"
John told me yes he did still have a 12 string.

That is SO SO cool! Did you get any pics of him playing the Viper B.Bird? How'd you arrange to meet him w/ your "new" guitar?

BTW... Is that a 12 str Bluebird next to the Adamas 12 behind Glen in these Vids?

Talbot, unfortunately I didn't get one of him playing the Viper.
I did take one of him strumming the Bluebird but it didn't come out. Bugger!!!
I didn't realise it until we had left him.
He was very charming and gracious.
I saw him play it so that will always remain in my memory.

I just contacted the pr office of the casino and explained what I wanted to do.
They rang back and gave me the number of the tour manager.
I called her, told her the story about it being Glen's guitar originally, how I got it and she said she would see what she could do.
I didn't hear anything all day then got a call about 5pm saying it was all arranged.

The rest is history.

Cool, A.J. He was kind and courteous to us, particularly when we got the camera out and asked him to pose with us and our wives. He's sporting a new do these days.

WOW!! AJ, Thats awesome man! I've never been one to "bother" Celebs for autographs, but, It's obvious G.C. was more then willing. What a great memory for you and your family.

Question? How was his daughter? can she play/sing and what type of music does she play?

Glen was playing a Bluebird 12 until sometime in the early mid 90's when it was damaged by an airline. The leader of his band, Jeff Dayton, contacted the factory and had Hamer build him a custom 12. Same neck profile as the Bluebird, same body size and shape (more or less)and it's got the later Schaller bridge on it that Ovation used in the late 70's, early 80's. He's been using it ever since. I'd be willing to bet that he had that BB 12 repaired and it's in storage somewhere.

Look in the archives. Dayton posted on the board for a while when he was selling his 87C in about 2004-05.....

He was using the Hamer 12 when he was here a few months back Paul. Sounded great. I was pleasantly surprised to find that he can still sing his ass of when he wants too as well.

This is a very cool story Jim. Nice you were able to make this happen.

Glen played the Hamer 12 string as Moody described.
Lovely guitar, light metallic blue with the Schaller bridge ala 12 st Deacon, Preacher Deluxe.

His other guitarist, not sure of his name, played a Taylor a/e and T5 electric.

And the bass player played what looked like a Danelectro
