| This is my first post. I just received my Ebony 1778T yesterday, had a great time playing it through my XL Superchamp last night. I love how the neck feels and I'm very happy with the unplugged sound as well.
I am going to start out with DR Rare medium light strings unless someone has a better string suggestion.
Also, anyone have a suggestion on how to best clean and care for the textured top?
I went over the whole guitar with just a damp soft cloth last night and there is still a slight discoloration where the guitar was held under the players right arm. Otherwise it looks great!

Location: Vernon CT | Welcome t2cycling! Congrats on your new Ovation! As far as strings, they are such a personal preference that only YOU can make that determination as whats best. Try a few different brands to see/hear what you like the best. (My Fav are Elixir Nano's).
As far as cleanning your "T" Joe T and/or Old Man Arthur should be around soon. They seem to be the resident Xperts on that model as they both have and still own many!! :) |

One of my T's has D'Addario EJ16's and the other has EXP's. (11 or 16, I cannot remember)
As far as cleaning, a damp cloth is about it.
The will often be a difference in color where your arm lays, but a damp rag oughta even it up.
Otherwise, time will help. Maybe the previous owner was particularly sweaty. :eek: |

T's... You just gotta lov'em! If you think it sounds good through a your Superchamp, try it through an acoustic amp sometime... mmmmm good cracker.
I use Elixir Nanos Phosphor/bronze on mine. But again, strings are a personal choice.
Clean up... damp cloth on the body and back of the neck, fret conditioner lightly on the fret board now and then. Easy. |

Welcome and congrats on the nice guitar. String preference gets debated every 2 months or so, so either do a search in the "general discussion" forum or stand-by, this thread just might turn into the latest re-hash of OFC string-theory… ;)
I can't answer the arm-stain-removal question, but I suspect someone may have an answer soon… (Jukebox Joe, are you up yet?) ;)
And I agree with Auriemma, an acoustic amp makes a big difference if/when you can afford one, but don't let that stop you from playing it through your current amp… |

On the strings question, I prefer extra lights because the bass is already so boomy that you still get more bottom with extra lights than you do with heavy strings on many other models!
On the discoloration where the arms (and fingers for that matter) touch, the textured T's are going to show this more than a glossy top because of the wearing down of the paint job. I doubt that they can be cleaned off for this reason, though perhaps there's some way of "shining up" the rest of the surface so that it blends in. Hmm... will have to experiment with that on a T I'm not afraid to mess up some day! On the upside, of course, you'll never get pick marks or fingerprints on a textured top like you do on a glossy tops, so it's a tradeoff, visually speaking.
But sonically speaking, congratulations on picking the best sounding darn guitar in the world. Okay, I'm biased. But that thin paint job does something to the tone of the guitar that no glossy top does, and if you're tuned into that sound like, Old Man Arthur, and a few other enlightened OFCers are, you'll know what I'm talking about!
I always hear it referred as the best "bang for your buck" guitar. That's an understatement. I think it's the best guitar, period, better sounding than gits that cost twice or thrice the bucks.
