EA58 Viper. That's a GREAT deal. Moody, if this isn't broken, you ought to go over and snag this immediately. If Johnny doesn't want it, I'll take it from you and flip it.

I believe the EA-58 is the 12-string Viper, and the -63 is the nylon model. Not sure what the bass version is, but for $200, and very likely a US model, this would be a no-brainer.

Sorry. I got too excited. Correct you are, Herr Professor. EAB-68.

There aren't a lot of these out there. I have one just like it, and the model number is hand-written on the label.

Found out it's an Ovation Viper EAB68-CCB as per seller.

I had hopes of getting this one. But the seller hasn't returned my second email.

So if someone out yonder can grab it for themselves, snatch it!

I just got a reply and I made an offer. So I'll email David back and retract my offer. We don't want to boo$t his expectation$, do we?

Ya know we expect a full report if ya get it. There's not much info on that model out 'there'.

Everyone email the seller with offers and we'll see how high we can bid this one up.
So I better stop at the bank and get some more cash.

noah,

My offer was made prior to my reading your post. I sent a retraction right after I found out you're in the area. Keep us updated. Good luck!

bobbo,

Thanx! Don't know how I missed that...

OK, I might get bagged here for this, but...

I've reinstated my email offer. I've been looking for a nice Ovation bass and this one looks too good to pass up without trying.

So, let the games begin...

since when is it "first come first served"?

it's entirely the seller's decision as to who buys the guitar, and those that are kind enough to let them know their instruments' worth/current resale value as opposed to their uninformed asking price are doing them a kindness as well as educating them on the guitars we love.

I personally feel those honest/ethical members are much more valuable and representative of what the OFC is supposed to be. at least it USED to be that way....

Good luck to whoever gets it.

Glenn

You're assuming that Iffy offered the seller more than the $200 he's asking. Iffy wouldn't be dumb enough to do that, would he? :)

I'm not making any assumptions about anyone in this case.

but when it comes to Johnny C(iffy) I personally know him as one of the most caring, concerned, genuine, and honest people that I have met on this board, and he has helped support me as a shoulder to cry on, and as a very, very, dear and good friend, I have spent hours on the phone with him throughout Char's illnesses and he and Al Segen are my two closest friends.

and he was kind enough to loan me one of his stable since I no longer own an Ovation that I can call my own, and he gave me my pick of several to choose from.

He is one of the biggest cheerleaders and proponents of this board and forum, and I am proud to know him as a man, friend, and member here.

and I truly feel that he would not take advantage of a seller's ignorance/lack of knowledge on the instrument they had for sale...

I know that for myself and others... when we have seen an Ovation/Adamas going for a ridiculous/uninformed price or mis-represented as to what it really was, I have notified the seller as to what the approximate value/rarity of the instrument was, and suggested that they reconsider their asking price, or at least put it up for a regular auction instead of a BIN...

some have listened and thanked me for my help and info... others have told me That's all they want... and will sell it for the listed price.

and that's about all I'll have to say about that.

Regards,

Glenn

Glenn, You are making assumptions and you are wrong.
Bobbo told Moody to grab it if it was not broken and if Johnny didn't want it, he'd flip it. I called Moody and told him I was already on it. I said that I spoke with the seller and took care of things. Iffy then said that he was sending offers to the seller.
Now that I know that Johnny = Iffy, I find it even crazier. He was not only driving the price up, he was bidding against himself, as I thought we were trying to grab the bass for bobbo's friend Johnny. I was the one looking at the guitar to make sure it was not broken. There is probably a very good reason for the asking price (usually requiring a trip to Mother).

Glenn, Iffy, your assumptions today did not serve you well.
Glenn, What you wrote is completely opposite my nature.

As a part of "The Old Guard" and "wizened and respected sages" here....has spoken from on high... I guess I must definitely be wrong, even if it was my "opinion" and "observations" to the thread that were commented upon..

as has been demonstrated many times before.... there is a double standard and Hierarchy in the memberhip here and in their(elders/original OFC)'s treatment, tolerance, and censureship.... guess it's just the new way of the world on the OFC... though other acronyms with those initials are lately seeming more and more appropriate.

go for it Bruce! maybe it will clear some grumpiness from your life.

It's a nice bass, and a rare one at that... hope he gets what it's worth out of it.

As my Grandfather would say,

"There's a reason bathrooms have doors ... So others don't have to watch you pissing all over yourselves."

For lack of a bathroom door, maybe the PM button might be a good second choice? Just my opinion, y'all carry on in the way you think is best.

Bruce, thank you. But if I had known about your plan, it would have simplified things. When I talked to Moody late in the afternoon, after you has posted, he did not say anything about you looking at the guitar for my friend. And we addressed the subject directly.

Glenn, you've been around here since very nearly the beginning. I can't believe you of all people, with all the things people did for you in the early days, are spewing this crap about "the old guard". I don't care what your member is now. I don't understand what you are trying to accomplish by driving a wedge where none belongs. There are good people no matter what their member number is, and there are assholes no matter what their member number is. Occassionally people can be both, but that's the price for being human.

Glenn, this grumpy old man is trying to do something nice for Johnny! Just like the way it USED to be. Nothing has changed except for preconceived intentions clouding individuals perceptions. If you automatically react to someone in an adversarial fashion, you eventually turn them into your adversary.

Dave, you enjoy throwing fuel on fires. If you felt it necessary to jump in, you should try to help rather than insult. If you have nothing constructive to add to an already volatile situation, please don't hit enter.

Glenn, This thread started out with bobbo suggesting to do something nice for Johnny. Moody wasn't aware of it when I gave him a heads-up and he was going in the other direction. I took the ball and ran with it and thought I was doing good, but when I check back, the thread and situation is going south. Now this morning, Dave has dragged us to the toilet. I don't know Johnny and I didn't know he was Iffy, yet I was acting in the spirit (that you say is gone) to snag a guitar for a stranger... what's wrong?

Bob, I was in the car, I could only see the post on a 3 inch screen and I only had Moody's number. I thought I was doing good. I'm late, I've got to go.
