Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | Right now I am using the clean setting on my Hughes & Kettner Edition Blue 15-R or my Microcube set on JC Clean...
I am thinking of getting a dedicated Acoustic Amp in the +/- $100 range... Which kinda leaves out the Genz Benz! :(
What I am looking at is...
Behringer Ultracoustic AT 108
Ibanez IBZ10A
Crate CA10
Ibanez Troubadour TA20
Or maybe just a Line 6 Micro Spider 6w 6.5" Speaker to go with my MicroCube
I was also looking at the Behringer Ultracoustic ACX450, but they are outta stock now that I waited...
So, does anyone own any of these and have an Opinion, or Advice, or Comment, or Snide Remark?
As always, looking for and edyumakation...
And yes, I already did a search! |

Location: GA USA | GNATL got the Crate 30W model for $90 on Clist. Sounds good. I'm playing it in church tomorrow. One thing we didn't like about it, the effects knob doesn't click into position. You have to get it to just the right position by looking and listening. |

| Slydog may still have my old Crate CA125, it's tri-amped 50x50x25 with a dedicated hi freq horn, and is quite a good and highly rated model.
has all the features but not a D model with the digital effects, which I actually prefer it to be without anyway, since I use the AG stomp on everything including my electrics.
It's not getting much use since AL gave us the Awesome! Deals on our Shen 60's
shoot him a pm, or I'll call him for you tomorrow.
maybe a little more than that, but who knows, and for a member? and it's now just gathering dust, but big bang for the buck... check out it's reviews.

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | I was thinking of the Crate CA10A cuz it just has a simple Chorus.
I have a Crate GFX-15 that I don't use anymore because it has all these Pre-Set FX...
Anything that is Pre-Set usually means that I won't like it!
That is why I am wary of the Ultracoustic ACX450...
It has two channels and a mic input with separate EQ's for each channel, but it has pre-set effects (I think  ). |

| I should add it's a 2/3 channel with chorus and reverb xlr phantom power, real effects send and return, and direct out xlr, footswitchable chorus, and reverb, and parametric slider eq, multi freq notch filters and all of the other tone and presence controls, for and indepant on each channel.
and a tilt back cab design... very crisp and clear, as said transparent. depending on the guitar and preamps installed in them, I did sometimes have to unplug the tweeter horn... some hiss... but depended totally on the guitar and whatever preamp..

I'm guessing it won't go much higher with the non-working tremolo.
Going through the "normal" channel on mine has really been impressive.
No reverb
No chorus
No effects period
Just sounds like my guitar. Way better than when I tried the "Reverb & Tremolo" channel.
I plugged my synth guitar stuff in there last night and it did quite well with that too. |

| I like the Ultrasound acoustic amps the best and they relatively inexpensive compared to others like AER. The AG30 can be had new including shipping for $199, which is more than your budget. But there is a used one currently on eBay that you might want to look at.
I also sometimes use bass amps. The SWR Workingman 12 is the same amp as the California Blonde without the reverb and at a fraction of the price. Many of the other more traditional amps like Genz, fender etc follow this same format. That is why I like the tone of the true acoustic amps, Ultrasound, AER, Baggs etc beter. |

Location: Utah | What exactly do you want this amp for? If it is just for goofing off, that's one thing. But if you want to record from it or gig with it, that's something else entirely.
IMO, you should look used. We test drove all the amps at GC and the local Mom & Pop, and settled on the Crate 60W. It sounded better than the 30W Crate, due probably to a better/bigger speaker, plus the effects are better. The Acoustisonic was just as good sounding but seemed more prone to feedback when playing right in front of it facing it. A small difference that made the choice for us.
The 60W amps all sounded better, fuller, deeper, cleaner than the 30W amps. The 30W amps all started distorting at modest volume. Suitable for coffee shops. The 15W and smaller all seemed like home practice amps.
Yes, the acoustic amps sound way better than your microcube! But for the same price range I don't think you'll get anything new that is really much better.
Also, some amps offer two independent channels with their own controls, some even have independent effects. Many will allow you to plug a mic into one channel and your guitar into the other, making it a one-box mini-PA if you're doing a solo act at a coffee shop or small room party. Some amps have a dual configuration jack which will accept a standard guitar cable or a standard mic cable. Some amps offer a line out, headphone out, balanced line out, CD line in, etc. Again, the 60W class seem to offer a lot more of these features for a small increase in price. With these amps you can easily use the amp as a stage monitor and run the balanced line out to the house PA. Pretty sweet setup. |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | I'm so amp crazy that everything I say should pretty much be ignored. However, Flysig asks an important question . . . what do you want to use it for? This really makes all the difference in the world. My only advice is to keep in mind that most folks always buy way more amp than the real purpose being served. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I have a little Epiphone 30W acoustic that I bought new a couple years ago for about $120. I now have a Crate 120W that I bought used for $150. The Crate has some effects and lots more volume, but the Epi is lighter, quieter and sounds cleaner. I really have no use for either, but if I wanted to amplify in a small room, I'd take the Epi. |
