Maybe this is an age old question, and I did do a forum search, but how do you stop the bowl from slipping when you play sitting down?
I know, you know what I mean! lol |

| I never had a problem with it until I read about it on here.
Only time I notice it is when I switch from a regular guitar and the Ovation seems a bit slippery but after a few seconds I get used to it again. |

Or play standing up. Especially important if you sing too, you can breathe better. |

Mainly designed for play standing up, but since it puts the guitar in a more normal position (soundboard perpendicular to floor) I imagine that it would also help with the slipping issue if seated. |

| I suppose it wouldn't slip if it was played while lying on your back, but I think that the stair tread tape idea sounds best. |

It's like buying shoes 2 sizes too small. . . |

Location: Michigan | Playing position is somewhat subjective don't you think? Anyway, I have one that is a bit slippy so I picked up a small piece of leather at a craft store and some E-6000 glue from home depot. Soft comfy, non sweat and easy on the cloths.
Funny my shiny bowl does not slip near as much as my old legend. |

LINK I bought one of those when I bought my first Ovation...
They are kinda like fuzzy velvet on paper.
(Not to belittle them, but that is what they are)
I prefer Dave's suggestion of 3M Stair Tread material, or them dancing-feet thingies.
They would work better, for a longer time.
Plus, the velvet stuff just attracts dirt. |

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | I have some of that web stuff that my Mom sent me to put in drawers and on shelves...
When we were talking about this on another occasion I gave it a try...
I laid it on my leg. It worked really well.
BUT! Although I have tried the Slip-Grip, and that web stuff, I have found that after playing Ovations for a while I do not need any of them.
If you are seated, just stand the guitar upright on you leg.
If you do not pull it towards you body with you right arm it should not move.
I have actually found that SSB's move around more than deep bowls.
I also discovered that once I have played a Contour Bowl for a while it taught me to hold my guitar correctly, not leaning the guitar back against my body.
If you really like to lean back with your guitar lying on your belly, use a strap. |
