Which ones will work best with the strap buttons currently sold on Ovation/Adamas guitars? The buttons look like they are already part of a straplock system. |

Location: SoCal | The trouble when you buy an Ovation/Adamas, is that you only get the guitar component of the Dunlop starplock, not the strap portion. If you want a strap for each guitar (which a lot of us do), you then have to go out and buy the complete set, then toss the guitar portion.
Ovation should include the strap part in the case when you buy a new guitar..... |

No.
You screw it to th'wall and have a place to hang your straps. |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | OK then ... if Ovation can get just the guitar portion, then it would make sense that there must be a whole lot of unused strap portions laying around somewhere. How'z about someone who has access to the factory folk seeing about making the other half available to us? It seems as though this could be an oportunity for some enterprising Ovation dealer to make a few bucks, while filling the need of a bunch of Ovation owners. Last time I checked there were over 7700 members here, many that have multiple guitars. Even if only a portion of the Ovation owners her bought a set, that's still a WHOLE LOT of units, and a whole lot of Ovations and Adamas guitars not hitting the ground. |

Wot's the rationale in THAT statement??
If Dunlop has the contract to KMC to produce say, 75K "buttons" for guitars, WHY would they go thru the trouble of producing that many "matching" pieces that aren't gonna' be used . . . |

You screw it to th'wall and have a place to hang your straps. This is what I did. Just used a longer screw with an extra strap button

So they can sell the matching pieces we need to us? Oh ... That's right, they only sell the sets ... right? Sounds like I'll have to contact Dunlop myself to find out how to order a bunch of the strap side pieces. Then again ... maybe I can order them through StewMac. |

Location: Utica, NY | Here's my .02. I have for years used only Schallers and here's why. First I just prefer their design. in use they are a little lower profile than the Dunlops and the way they both cradle and the spring loaded rod engages the button is a nice redundancy and damned near fail-proof in my experience as long as you check the tightness of the guitar screw and the nut on the strap end occasionally. Second, I can buy buttons only from Stew Mac cheap and use the same makes all my straps and easy fit. I know they Dunlops work but I have never liked their look or how they engage but inserting the pin in the button and trusting the three little bearings to work their magic. I don't know if anyone has ever had a failure but I just like the Schallers so much better. I think they might be sold under a Fender labe as well. |

Seriously, I don't remember playing a guitar without them, It's the first thing that gets put on a guitar that I'm going to play. It wasn't until just a few years ago that I set a strap aside that didn't have Dunlop locks on it, just so I could test guitars that came through.
Why all guitars don't have some sort of locking strap locking system is beyond me. |

I have a small bin full of the Strap portion of the Dunlop Straploc. I could use more of the Guitar end parts.
Pictures to follow...
And by the way - My preference is the "Classic" Dunlop Straploc, it has a smaller profile and fits the detent pin better than the Dual Purpose units.
QUESTION for MR. BIG+++++++++
Can you get discounted volume packaged deals for your OFC Buds?
Maybe throw in a T-Shirt or two... |

And they're still doing he job.
Probably the same for your older instruments. |

FWIW, the nuts on my Schaller straplocks have unscrewed and came off many times. I don't think they're any safer than the Dunlops at all. I have both kinds and they both work fine. |

Location: Winnipeg, Manitoba CANADA | Has anyone here tried the Dunlop Ergo-Loks (the ones that look like a black guitar picks...)?
I am thinking of outfitting my guitars with these and was wondering if anyone has found any major drawbacks.
I like the concept and the fact they go over the strap pin, rather than INTO it. I had my BC Rich Koa Eagle bass for only two weeks back in '79 when the Strap-Lok system (very similar in appearance to the Dunlop system mentioned above...) let go, breaking the headstock off at the first fret!! This was so traumatic, I can't even look at this kind of setup now without wincing (sweating profusely just remembering, lol...).
The Ergo-Loks look pretty foolproof, are easily the most cost effective and are the least 'gizmo-y' of the lot from what I have seen. Any thoughts? |
