Location: Sunshine State, Australia | With my old amp I could plug a music player into one of the inputs, plug the bass into the other input, plug in some headphones and I could practice away in the same room as SWMBO while she watches TV.
This worked OK, but it was a bit cumbersome.
I could use my laptop, but that's cumbersome too.
Is there a product out there that does something similar, or does anyone have an alternative solution? |

Glenn C called it. The Vox AC10 is probably exactly what you're looking for. |

Luvin' loud?
Nickelback, Bachman Turner Overweight, Neil Young & Crazy Horse .... we bin loud a long time. Just quiet about it.
Things're getting quiet & respectful again now. After all, the Special Olympics start in a couple days. (normally that would be a provincial election.....) |

If you're talking about a guitar not a bass, the Yamaha silent string is very nice. Plug in an MP3 player and jam away. |

If you're looking for a self-contained 6-string solution, I've had one of these since they came out almost a decade ago.
It works great with WorkshopLive on my laptop when hanging out in the family room.
It also breaks down into a gigbag for travel and comes in a steel version.
Yamaha also showed this deluxe "concert nylon" version, but I was not able to find one for sale in the States.

Location: SoCal | Ebony fretboard, wider neck, wood wings (instead of composite)... yep, that deluxe version is the one to find.
The quality on mine is great. It lives in the family room with my Multiac.
TJ, Have you tried a ToneRite on yours?
When I'm not playing mine, I keep a ToneRite on it. The results have been amazing! :p |

Location: Sunshine State, Australia | I really like the Vox amplug option - especially when they make 5 different flavours, one of which being for bass. I ordered one today.
Some of those other units seem far to complex for my few remaining brain cells.
Thanks for all the input gang. |

Location: Sunshine State, Australia | I'm not too sure what I'm actually looking at there, Hector.
I can see the iPod and the 'Y' connector - is the 'sylent' the actual see-thru guitar?
Given the option of buying a $40 headphone amp or forking out for ANOTHER guitar - I'll go the cheap option every time.
Just out of curiousity though, how's is work? How does the 'Y' connector fit into the chain of events?
edit; I've just googled the Yamaha Silent - doesn't look like they do a bass version. I still can't see why you need the 'Y' connector as the guitar has an aux in, which I would assume takes the MP3/cd player? |

Location: California | You can listen the music of your ipod, CD, mp3 etc through your headphones at the same time you play along simultaneulsly with this guitar or silent base quietly. They do a Silent Yamaha Bass version but it is not cheap; you are right, go for your best option. |
