Location: Utah | There's a 1537 on consignment locally. The shop owner doesn't know much about it except "those Ovations are a skinny man's guitar".
It is serial # 301xxx which puts it at 1983.
Brown bowl, pretty heavy compared to new Lyrachord. Two wooden knobs. Top looks great, no cracks or dings except one small nick on the binding. There are two output jacks in the back of the bowl, not on the edge below the strap button.
Gloss neck. Is this correct for 1983? There is little to no wear on the back of the neck. No serial number on the back of the headstock. The fretboard and frets look excellent but not new. It almost seems that the neck has been refinished but it looks like factory work not amateur work.
The blue label is on upside down inside the bowl, at least compared to recent guitars. From the audience perspective it is upside down, from the player perspective it is readable.
Does this sound factory original or as if it has been modified?
The price seems good at $600, though the wife would banish me forever. Perhaps my eldest daughter could store it for me at her apartment... |

or negotiate him down another $50
at that price you will always be able to recoup your cost....specially when times get a bit better. |

You'd never catch me selling a 1537 that cheap! |

Location: Tennessee | That's exactly like mine. Sounds like 100% factory. The neck is probably original too ... they're just like that. Label placement is identical to mine.
$600 in a no brainer steal if you want that particular guitar. I way playing mine earlier this morning and it is worth a lot more, especially when comparing it with much higher priced guitars around here. |

Location: Utah | Not yet. The wife's response to the Ute for Sara was "tell me again why she needs this guitar". The only way to justify buying the 1537 would be to put a couple other guitars on the block first or if I could turn a profit on the 1537 in a few weeks. |

It's not bad flipping one that you're not that attached to, but it's different altogether when you like what's hidden in the closet (not to mention the basement, the office, under the bed, under the stairs, and behind the potted ficus that's needed trimming since the turn of the century ). It took supreme willpower to sell my 1537 and Country Artist LX last fall, but I've started to reap the benefit with the arrival of my new Redwood 1537 and soon to be next critter from the factory. But $600 for a 1537 in good condition? Heck, if you don't get it, lemme know! That's a sweet deal! |

Just tell the wife it is highly collectable and you can easily get your money back. That way you can play it yourself and see if it is as good as everyone says it is. I'd offer him 500 and walk if he doesn't take it. |

Correct me if I'm wrong guys, but aren't these pretty rare? I thought I heard there were way more Collectors built every year than what the production run was on the 1537. |

I really don't need another guitar and have in fact been mulling over what to sell. If it lasts until the weekend we'll see if the seller will deal a bit in order to give it a temporary new home here. |

A couple years ago, I think it was Moody who started a thread on the numbers of 1537s produced. I don't remember if there were any definitive answers, but I recall being surprised that the number was quite a bit higher than I expected. |
