Location: Tampa Bay area, FL | This is actually in Florida, about 3 weeks ago, during a string of cold fronts. In fact, right after this was taken, NBC news showed up and interviewed me about the freezing temps (we Florida folk can barely stand anything below 40).
The guitar is a USA Viper, painted with the Elite T paint- the top and back are seamlessly textured, with no body binding. The factory did this for me, since the original gloss black finish looked like a cheetah had used it as a scratching post (it was like that when I bought it). The factory re-painted the headstock to match. I added flat black locking tuners. I play it through a Line6 M13 and an Aphex Acoustic Xciter to boost lower harmonics. Sounds absolutely huge.

Location: Tampa Bay area, FL | Yes 40 degrees is cold to us down here! And thanks to the kind comments. I wasn't sure what to do with this guitar when I saw the condition it was in, since much work had to be done on it, and I really loved the textured paint idea (the Elite T hadn't come out yet). In fact, with these Vipers, I am not sure how much of the tone comes from the top itself. I send it through a compressor, delay, plate reverb and then that Aphex unit, which really opens it up. It is really comfortable, doesn't show fingerprint or sweat marks (it is Florida after all), and is comfy to hold. I am sad they never really continued this model, and you don't really see many playing it really, although I am constantly asked about it. |
