Location: Seattle | Just got a H4N for recording on the go....
Has a ton of features (32gb max capacity,records up to 4 channels, amp sims, and usb interface)
....but this swiss army knife device's 151 page manual is a little scary.
Any hive suggestions on accelerating the learning curve? |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | I think the younger folks are less inhibited to take on new digital products. They intuitively know how to jump in, adjust settings, and maximize the equipment's potential. I have a Zoom A2.1u featured on one of my pedal boards. It is a wonderful tool with many capabilities, but I was only using maybe 5% of its features (six customized presets, the expression pedal customized primarily for volume, and all the output connections). I recently completed a new board with seven pedals that are 100% analog and I'm using about 90% of their features. I marvel at the younger generation's intuition for digital devices, but most are beyond my patience curve. |

ANyway, I have a H4 that I use to record live shows, my own and ones I go see (will be using it tonight for Brandi Carlile).
It's really not too hard once you start using it. I haven't used the 4 tracks because I have a better solution for that, but as a field recorder it works great. It's also nice having XLR inputs for mics.
I don't have the newer H4 "N" model, but I'd be happy to share what I do know about mine.

Location: Chicago | I'd like to chime in on the Zoom H4: It is an AWESOME point-an-click device. But... Has anyone mastered the 4-track feature? I've read the manual and looked online and simply have not penetrated the required "interplay" of the three switches to smoothly overdub.... |
