I often get comments about the "bizarre" shape of the O bowl...
But WAIT!... For a thousand years various ancestors of the guitar
COMMONLY had a round back: lutes, the oud,
the moorish guitar etc.
stating the obvious, right!

It's the SQUARE box that's a Johnny-come-lately!

I have also brought this factoid up periodically for several years. The fact remains that the "box" shape on modern wood guitars was done for convenience, ease of reproduction, weight, etc..

Ovation makes a proper shaped guitar, that has the same volume and full (wide) tone over the entire length of the fretboard.

...and it fits organically and comfortably on the properly proportioned human form.

Naked or clothed, prices may vary in your market.

Dobro: Do you actually own a lute that is in the picture?

No Lute owner am I, alas. Just a lucky find with the Google on the Internets. A friend DOES own an OUD which I love: the sound and the tradition.

If yer into the oud, look-up Ara Dinkjian.
He's considered like the Eric Clapton of ouds (in Turkey, anyway . . .)
His "Live in Jerusalem" CD is exceptional!!

I work with his sister, Ana.
