| Is it my pathetic eyesight or does the close up of the Op-pro look like someone has pried the preamp out with a screwdriver at some time? And it doesn't look seated right.
You'd have thought he'd have straightened the strings out before he did a close up. |

Based on the email address, I believe this is owned by Dan Roten, a very talented player who is a member here and put an incredible song on one of the OFC MNO discs. I'll suspect this may have been done at the factory. |

Location: Tennessee | Man, what a bunch of holier than thou bigots. Someone posts up a beat up broken guitar and there's nothing but a bunch of posts about how cool it is. Then there's this one of a kind Adamas made custom by a pro musician and you castigate the whole deal.
It's a damn fine thing no one posted up a picture of a Q or you all would be riding CWK2 out of town on a rail. |

Location: Up North | I seriously doubt that top was finished at the factory! The gloss on the bowl is far superior to the top. The top looks to be a hand-paint job at best.
This is not representative of the fine quality of Ovation-Adamas factory finish work. |

I think it's pretty cool in a twisted sort of way!! Obviously, Some people like exotic woods and other people like Velenos... The reason Ovations became so popular initially was the technology... not their traditionalism.
If this was done at the factory (anyone know for certain?), I'm sure they would have respected the tone of the guitar, and that would make it VERY COOL indeed!! |

Although I can't remember ever disliking the plastic bowl, I didn't like the Adamas colors or soundholes at first, then once I got into those, I didn't like the smooth finish of some of the new ones. Some old curmudgeons are just resistant to any new ideas.

It's got more Ripple® than my HS class had in college. Is it called the 'Exxon Valdez' or the Joseph Hazelwood signature model? Or maybe someone used this...
I agree with 'Zilla in that it probably looks great on stage, especially with a Disco ball!
Now, that bowl is another story, WOW! If the MS did that, then I have at least one 'O'candidate for the same bowl treatment. |

Location: Tennessee | Hey y'all ... just wanted to circle back on this. I talked to Dan about the guitar ... here's the scoop. The update work for the new neck, tuners, preamp, etc was done by the factory. The paint was done by Wilkins Guitar Finishes ... arguably the best high-end guitar custom finish shop in the world. They do work for folks like Elliot Easton, Tom Petty, Mike Campbell and many others. Their work speaks for itself.
Gloss black guitars are the hardest of any to photograph without picking up all kinds of reflections. That's what you're seeing in the pictures posted earlier. I got some additional pictures that are a better indication of what the guitar really looks like that I thought some of you might want to see:

Granted it might feel a bit out of place out on the stoop of your log cabin (queue the music from 'Deliverance'...), but to me it looks like pure 'science-fiction'... and that is a good thing!! In the new pics, the top looks like a pool of mercury... very calming, lol |

Location: Phoenix AZ | You're never going to get everyone to feel the same about visual asthetics. This guitar (heck ANY guitar) will appeal to some, not to others.
There are members here who dislike the look of a carved adamas headstock. Who think a vintage D28 is plain looking. Some think wooden epaulets are gay. Don't like cutaways. Blah, blah, blah ...
Important thing is that you like what YOU play, otherwise you won't enjoy it and that defeats the whole purpose. What ever you might feel about someone ELSES guitar is just an opinion that in the grand scheme of things really doesn't matter. |

Only that... we now know the job was,
a) Done by someone we all agree knows his craft...
b) Done by someone who has enough sense not to ruin the audio characteristics of the guitar... (and NOT by some misguided zealot in his garage!!).
This way, the guitar can be assessed on it's own merits and you will either like or you don't... fair enough. |
