I just bought a first run (1983) 1685-7 Adamas11 12 string here.

THe neck has been replaced and the original neck came with the guitar.
It was replaced I assume because the frets are worn out and the fingerboard has more divots than a driving range, also a slight hearing problem.

The replacement neck is in in good nick and it plays fine.
However, it is about 1/4" shorter where it extends over the top (I can see the outline of the original) and the heel is not quite as deep and leaves part of the hole in the bowl exposed.
Also it is a solid not 5 piece like the original.

Is it possible to have the original fingerboard replaced and the neck refurbished?
Is it worth it?

I thought I'd ask opinions here before I annoy the boys at the MS.

I left my camera home so will post the pics when I get home.

TIA

AJ

A few years ago I asked the factory to replace the worn-out fretboard of my 1682-7 (wide-neck version of 1681). They recommended to replace the complete neck. I think it's due to the epoxy glue they originally used to bond the fretboard with the neck. It's not possible to loosen epoxy glue by heat.

They replaced the neck. Top-notch workmanship. You can see the result here.
