Location: Tennessee | I do ... but my company's main office in Santa Monica so I am there for a few days most weeks. I get the best of both worlds ... I get to hang in LA a lot and I get to live in the Bay Area.
West LA Music is a great place. I spent a bit of time there "back in the day". I bought my Kustom III half stack there along with the other usual stuff. One day I was in there noodling around and this tall black dude with really long fingers came over and started showing me some stuff on the bass. He spent about 15 minutes talking to me, showing me all kinds of amazing stuff and explaining how important knowing where you could go on the fretboard was to playing anything. I thought he was trying to get me to sign up for lessons ... but I hung in there, he didn't apply any pressure, then he picked up a case, waved to the store clerk and left. Store clerk came over and told me it was Stanley Clarke. |

All newer members should go to either or both...good times and repetition for retention  :p
With that said, I am probably known for going to more of these, remembering less. |

Location: SoCal | Matt,
What time do the festivities start on 5/31? Do we bring guitars as we did to Temecula?
Any other SoCal guys & gals coming?
Last time Matt was there, Joe had Mexican food available in the back room. Fred and I had a couple of guitars with us (47RI, 1687RI, '79 1687, and Fred's Custom Elite that he won at the Tour).
Matt started playing the 47RI which started an impromptu jam session in the back room, almost shut the store down as almost all of the GuitarTrader staff were in the room watching or playing instead of working the store. Actually delayed the Chop Shop.
Fun part of this is the GuitarTrader had gotten and sold a 1687RI but the staff hadn't played it...probably the 1st time they had an opportunity to play the top of the line, as well as the slothead. |

Another "should have been" there opportunity...come to one, come to all. And it is FREE. Bring a guitar or two.
Ordered an extra "The Art of Wood and Tone", the Takamine book that is only available through the TakamineForum (supplies getting low). We will present to our SoCal Kaman Rep (Joe Montoya) for his past and present support of Matt and the OFC.

Location: Tennessee | I'll be doing both clinics at WestLA music. One of my boys will be with me ... we'll pack both an O and a Tak. A few other local musician friends will be there one night or the other. Moody's gonna drag a couple of folks up from the OC as well. Any other SoCal members going to be there? Let me know ... Moody and I are working on a pre- and post-event activity schedule which will probably involve food and drink. |

BTW - I took that photo in Beal's music room. In the actual poster, there is no smoke ... it's just bounceback from my flash. Sometimes the greatest things are born of mistakes and dumb luck. |

| The trouble with going to a matt clinic is you learn stuff. And over the last 40 years I've learned that the more I learn the more there is I don't know. Stay ignorant - Moody's right; 4 chords is enough for anyone.
Sorry matt, but I still haven't got over how easy your mode system is after spending years just trying to memorise that shit. Where were you when I needed you all those years ago? |

Who's coming to the WestLA clinic? I'll be there along with my son Mad Max ... rumor has it some others from the LA area will be making special guest appearances. Anyone want to admit it? If so, maybe we ought to plan on some food and beverage before and/or after? Matt, you available to hang with us a bit? There's no Huddle House nearby, but I do know where there's a rocking little Der Weinerschnitzel ... :D |

So far, I only have confirm of myself and Rudy (couple of others are possible)...disappointing when you consider the opportunity. |

Dave (StandingOvation/Tupperware/Galleria or whatever) will not be able to attend for honorable reasons. We will miss him...I looked at him as the tour guide for the time at BuffaloBrothers.
Looks like Fred took Dave's wisdom and will focus on his family...good call for both of you.
Hopefully, there will be other times with Matt and Brad.
Probable that Michael will come down.
Last call for anyone in SoCal...
Guitar Trader, 2-4 Matt, 4-6 Brad

Bring your guitars. If you don't bring a guitar, I'll loan you one of mine.
We will actively advertise the OvationFanClub and the TakamineForum.
I will have the Adamas 47RI and two Takamines... the Nashville TVN360SC and the slothead New Yorker (bearclaw and Koa). |

Location: Tennessee | Y'all are in for a special day. Both clinics were just outstanding at the West LA whistlestop. I know Matt and Brad are both looking forward to being together with the folk in San Diego.
I had a great time seeing Matt in LA. The clinic was awesome, everyone "got it", especially my son Max who is not yet very accomplished, but he can play a few songs OK. The D tuning lesson just clicked with him. And the Travis picking pattern. Hell, Matt just plain clicked with him.
It was loads of fun. No Huddle House, but there was an unhurried exit from the Curry House. Thanks Michael for the dinner and the company! I just wished we coulda played our guitars together for a while. |

I took over the stage and gave Matt and Joe their gifts...then had the drawing:
1st winner - me, box of strings
2nd winner - someone, box of strings
3rd winner - me, Celeb guitar.
Gulp, I only entered once, we decided I had enought guitars and drew again. Later, the winner thanked me.
Matt, Joe, Brad, and myself went to dinner in La Jolla. Good time. |
