Looks pretty, but as was said in another recent thread, an old guitar that's never been played is just old. I've read that if you wait too long to start playing a guitar it will never "open up" to it's true potential because of irreversible changes in the cellular structure of the wood. If you want a pristine example to put in a glass case, this is it. If you want one of these that has the tone and volume these are famous for, I don't know...

I played moody's new '87 the other night and it was pretty freakin' awesome for not having "opened up". Quite the looker, too. My finger was twitching over there on the bay so I had to come back here ...

Well worth the BIN, unplayed or not. It'll pound any similarly priced guitar into the ground sonically and aesthetically.

Mine was in black and it came with all the original stuff, including the original sales receipt. Could have been all switched to a black case, or maybe they just used both colors.

I never get too worried about cases. So long as it's a good one and works.

re: "I never get too worried about cases. So long as it's a good one and works."

True but if it came in a brown case, where is it and why is it in a black case...it may not have been kept in the case the whole time...who cares, probably has no to little fret wear...would still ask some detailed questions of the seller...an absolute such as "never played" raises some disclosure questions. Never been evan strummed, no string changes, kept in a dank, dark basement?

Mine came from the seller in a scrungy old black case for whatever that's worth. Might want to go to Jerome's site and look in one of the old late 80's catalogues to see what was "stock". I guess at some point in the '80's the cases went from brown to black. Maybe one dealer or another had more of one than the other. I think I heard somewhere they shipped them in boxes. Don't really know. Never bought a new guitar.

My receipt just says "w/case". Doesn't describe it. I just noticed I have the hang tags, receipt and the booklet, but not the Certificate of Authenticity. Maybe the original owner never sent in for it. I can't imagine he'd keep all the other stuff in the case but not the COA.

That was fast. Maybe the weak dollar helps overseas sales.

Within the past two weeks, in response to some of my inquiries concerning Adamas guitars for sell, two nice ones went to Japan. One responder said the buyer asked if he had any more.

...slipping dollar...

I started this thread, so I'll make a final comment on it. 87 C's are great guitars. I just got done playing mine in the start up session of our Friday nite jam. Along with my guitar, there was a Collings dreadnaught, a D-28, and a Takamine D size cutaway. To be honest, I preferred the sound of my 87 C. Those are great guitars.....

I say this with my tounge firmly planted in my cheek and with a smile on my face.

We can fawn and fuss over the slightest little ding making a guitar so much less than mint and then can find fault in this '87 because it has been left untouched and unplayed for 19 years.
Yes indeed my friends. We, myself included and in the nicest sense of the word, are geeks.

Always good for the wallet when we like our own guitars best.

Played mine last night, too, after looking for the COA. Great guitars. I'll have to get another one when I give this one to my daughter in 4 years. I bet a grand won't get one then.

Mine gets its public debut tonight at a Christian coffee house in Poughkeepsie. I tested its pre-amp last night, and knowing the previous owner, I bet that's the first time it's ever been plugged in.

Ohhhh...she's a-nice!

Wow! I mean...WOW! What a guitar! :D Last night was a solo gig and she sounded great, but at church this morning I lead a choir with drums, electric bass, a 12-string and two flutes, not to mention vocals. The 87C easily punched through all of that sound, so no one had any trouble following my lead. (It bears mentioning that this is a small church without monitors. We often have trouble hearing each other when we're playing flat out. But not today.) This lady is everything you've ever heard about her! When I opened the case, the bass player just stared at it for a full minute before asking about it. His eyes got even brighter when I told him to play it for a few minutes while I tuned and checked my 12-string. This beauty demands attention with both her looks and her voice.

Or am I gushing too much? :p

BTW, while rummaging online tonight, I found a BLACK 87C for sale. Pricey but fair I think, if it's in good shape. Here's a link:

Black 87C

I'd buy it if I could, but I need to do some horsetrading for a while before I do any more keeping.

I noticed that too. :) But I try to cut large dealers a little slack regarding details. I figure the guitar's probably older than the guy who posted the ad, so like many of his contemporaries, he made an assumption. :D I've noticed some fantastic misperceptions on the Guitar Center web site.

As to the '87C case...just got word from an impeccable source that the '87C was shipped in a black case. They had changed from brown to black by '87.
