| Looks pretty, but as was said in another recent thread, an old guitar that's never been played is just old. I've read that if you wait too long to start playing a guitar it will never "open up" to it's true potential because of irreversible changes in the cellular structure of the wood. If you want a pristine example to put in a glass case, this is it. If you want one of these that has the tone and volume these are famous for, I don't know... |

True but if it came in a brown case, where is it and why is it in a black case...it may not have been kept in the case the whole time...who cares, probably has no to little fret wear...would still ask some detailed questions of the seller...an absolute such as "never played" raises some disclosure questions. Never been evan strummed, no string changes, kept in a dank, dark basement? |

Location: Portland, OR | Mine came from the seller in a scrungy old black case for whatever that's worth. Might want to go to Jerome's site and look in one of the old late 80's catalogues to see what was "stock". I guess at some point in the '80's the cases went from brown to black. Maybe one dealer or another had more of one than the other. I think I heard somewhere they shipped them in boxes. Don't really know. Never bought a new guitar. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | My receipt just says "w/case". Doesn't describe it. I just noticed I have the hang tags, receipt and the booklet, but not the Certificate of Authenticity. Maybe the original owner never sent in for it. I can't imagine he'd keep all the other stuff in the case but not the COA. |

...slipping dollar... |

Along with my guitar, there was a Collings dreadnaught, a D-28, and a Takamine D size cutaway. To be honest, I preferred the sound of my 87 C. Those are great guitars..... |

We can fawn and fuss over the slightest little ding making a guitar so much less than mint and then can find fault in this '87 because it has been left untouched and unplayed for 19 years.
Yes indeed my friends. We, myself included and in the nicest sense of the word, are geeks. |

Well, let us know how you and your 87 did..... Wow! I mean...WOW! What a guitar! :D Last night was a solo gig and she sounded great, but at church this morning I lead a choir with drums, electric bass, a 12-string and two flutes, not to mention vocals. The 87C easily punched through all of that sound, so no one had any trouble following my lead. (It bears mentioning that this is a small church without monitors. We often have trouble hearing each other when we're playing flat out. But not today.) This lady is everything you've ever heard about her! When I opened the case, the bass player just stared at it for a full minute before asking about it. His eyes got even brighter when I told him to play it for a few minutes while I tuned and checked my 12-string. This beauty demands attention with both her looks and her voice.
Or am I gushing too much? :p  |

Black 87C
I'd buy it if I could, but I need to do some horsetrading for a while before I do any more keeping. |

I figure the guitar's probably older than the guy who posted the ad, so like many of his contemporaries, he made an assumption. :D I've noticed some fantastic misperceptions on the Guitar Center web site. |
