Man, my heart goes out to those people!! Living here on one of North America's better known flood plains (the Red River valley in southern Manitoba), I understand just how scary that much uncontrolled (uncontrollable...) water can be.

Until it actually happens to YOU, a person can't understand the desperation and hopelessness that comes with this kind of disaster... Our prayers are with them (and the Grand Ole Opry...).

It's all out at Opry Land. It's too bad but at least it isn't the Rhyman.

I've seen some pictures of The Opryland Hotel they got hit pretty bad. Minor damage at the Country Music Hall Of Fame.

I wonder if Gruhn Guitars moved some of their inventory to higher ground.

There is water over the stage at the Opry...The Ryman seems to have been spared...Gruhn's seems to be ok although I have a report of water on the street level...I do not know about Roy Acuff's Museum: a lot of vintage instruments there...seeing the pictures of the water over the stage at the Opry is sad...I was on stage there in 1993 w/ my late friend Charlie Lilly...The Opryland Hotel is badly flooded...if you have ever seen the gardens and the atrium's there, it is sad to think they are under water...estimate damage just at the Hotel of 10 Million...

Predictable, maybe, but you'd really have to pay attention to history.

500 year floods are a bit hard to predict.
Even though the media is playing up downtown and the Opry complex, the worst areas are west of town. If you're familiar, Bellevue was a major disaster.
Those of us who live in the hills are suffering survivors guilt. The only thing I have to complain about is that my golf course is closed for a few weeks. Very fortunate here.

They moved the Grand Ole Opry back to the Ryman.
The Ryman is uphill a coupla feet from the crick so it should be fine.
History repeats itself...

The GOO Goo Dolls played the Ryman Monday and Gruhn was not hit. They were canoeing between the goalpost on the football field were my kids go to school behind my house. It was up 4 ft in the classrooms. We were high enough to miss it but several homes in my subdivision were not as lucky. Form the air It looked like Katrina but there seems to be little national attition w/ the oil spill and the boomer. Has any heard if the President has even mentioned it?? No fly over as yet.

God musta flooded out Opryland to pay back those evil sons of bitches for running a business that provides thousands and thousands of jobs in Nashville. All those people are going to be better off now that the government is going to handle things for them.

FWIW, I've been to Opryland three times and I never had to pay anything to see any of the music.

Hey! Don't shoot the messenger!

Grand Ole Opry tickets cost about $40 for normal folks...
(if you've got a backpack and long-hair you ain't getting on the property)
But $40 is alot better than $200 to see U2!
And I would much rather see the Opry than U2.
But it is not like they need donations to rebuild the "icon"...
The Icon was/is the Ryman... but Emmylou Harris and them had to rebuild that.
Opryland Inc just built another Six Flags thingie...
(in a flood plain apparently)

All in All... I am glad that the Opry is back at the Ryman.
They should leave it there.

There's a report this morning that the large storage facility of Soundcheck Nashville is underwater. A thousand or more artists and companies use that facility. They say that Brad Paisley's entire collection except for one guitar is in there, and Vince Gill may have lost most of his collection of rare vintage instruments. It's going to be a disaster for a lot of collectors, working musicians, and music related businesses.

I watched a Telethon from Nashville last night. Vince Gill did lose some guitars. He also gave $100,000 to help the relief effort.

Who in their right mind would store valuable items in a facility located in a flood zone? I know, it only floods once every hundred years or so, but still. There have to be storage facilities in Nashville that are better located....like on a hill.
I know about flood zones here in Florida. My safety deposit box is at a bank that's high and dry.
