Location: Winnipeg, Manitoba CANADA | Man, my heart goes out to those people!! Living here on one of North America's better known flood plains (the Red River valley in southern Manitoba), I understand just how scary that much uncontrolled (uncontrollable...) water can be.
Until it actually happens to YOU, a person can't understand the desperation and hopelessness that comes with this kind of disaster... Our prayers are with them (and the Grand Ole Opry...). |

I wonder if Gruhn Guitars moved some of their inventory to higher ground. |

Even though the media is playing up downtown and the Opry complex, the worst areas are west of town. If you're familiar, Bellevue was a major disaster.
Those of us who live in the hills are suffering survivors guilt. The only thing I have to complain about is that my golf course is closed for a few weeks. Very fortunate here. |

The Ryman is uphill a coupla feet from the crick so it should be fine.
History repeats itself...

Location: nashville | The GOO Goo Dolls played the Ryman Monday and Gruhn was not hit. They were canoeing between the goalpost on the football field were my kids go to school behind my house. It was up 4 ft in the classrooms. We were high enough to miss it but several homes in my subdivision were not as lucky. Form the air It looked like Katrina but there seems to be little national attition w/ the oil spill and the boomer. Has any heard if the President has even mentioned it?? No fly over as yet. |

FWIW, I've been to Opryland three times and I never had to pay anything to see any of the music. |

Grand Ole Opry tickets cost about $40 for normal folks...
(if you've got a backpack and long-hair you ain't getting on the property)
But $40 is alot better than $200 to see U2!
And I would much rather see the Opry than U2.
But it is not like they need donations to rebuild the "icon"...
The Icon was/is the Ryman... but Emmylou Harris and them had to rebuild that.
Opryland Inc just built another Six Flags thingie...
(in a flood plain apparently)
All in All... I am glad that the Opry is back at the Ryman.
They should leave it there. |

Location: Utah | There's a report this morning that the large storage facility of Soundcheck Nashville is underwater. A thousand or more artists and companies use that facility. They say that Brad Paisley's entire collection except for one guitar is in there, and Vince Gill may have lost most of his collection of rare vintage instruments. It's going to be a disaster for a lot of collectors, working musicians, and music related businesses.

Location: Flahdaw | Who in their right mind would store valuable items in a facility located in a flood zone? I know, it only floods once every hundred years or so, but still. There have to be storage facilities in Nashville that are better located....like on a hill.
I know about flood zones here in Florida. My safety deposit box is at a bank that's high and dry. |
