First New Acoustic: Walden
Do I still have it: No
When did I buy it: given to me as a gift on Palm Sunday of 2007

My first solid body electric: piece of crap Memphis that I later found out had a warped neck

Purchased: in 1986

Do I still have it: No -- thankfully I was able to trade it in for a Stinger SSX by Martin.

First hollow body electric: Hopefully it will be a Tornado

When did I buy one: not yet, but in my dreams I already have one.

Don't have it, but I have visitation rights.

First new acoustic
Ovation 1112-4

Purchased 1974

I traveled extensively with this guitar. Now it has a severely twisted neck, big old through the wood cracks and is virtually unplayable. But I still have it.

First New Solidbody
Ibanez Flying V - lawsuit model

Purchased 1975

I sold this guitar in the early 90s when I desperately needed cash. I decided to replace it around 2006 and found MY GUITAR on ebay for sale in CA! The guitar and the case both had all the small identifying dings that I had put on them. I bought it for almost three times what I originally paid for it - and I still have it.

My first hollow body:
Generic silvertone-ish department store guitar bought from K-Mart. It had 2 cheap pickups and a bunch of plastic toggle switches. I have never seen another like it.

Purchased 1973

I wish I still had it.

First acoustic, FT145sb Epiphone purchased in 1977 and still have it

First Solidbody electric, a Japanese no name copy of a Les Paul gold top purchased in 1978, sold it when I left Australia in '82. I had put a new nut, new tuners and humbuckers, wish I still had that one.

Never owned a hollow body electric.

First new acoustic:
Ovation Balladeer Special S771 TDB
Purchased from Alpep in 2005
Sold it to my bro-in-law to buy Elite T, he still has it.

First new solid body:
Fender Amercian Standard Strat, 1991.
Sold it to the kid across the street.
(Actually, my first was a Squier strat, which was a pretty nice guitar. I had another Squier later that was terrible.)

First new hollowbody:
Never had one, but after playing a Hamer Newport, I'd trade the Deacon AND Viper right now for one in natural with Bigsby. Or a nice burst. Just sayin'.

The only completely new guitar I've ever bought was a cherry sunburst Murph in 1965. Only wish I still had it.

In 1976 I bought an almost new Gibson LP Custom from a guy who had just bought it a week before, wanted an acoustic instead but didn't want to get ripped off by the music store selling it back to them. Mint for $650 bucks. Lucky me. I still have it and I can guarantee it forgot what mint meant a long time ago.

What's important about "New" guitar purchases? Just curious.

Karen,

After playing it last year, I can see why you would want to hold on to it.

But if you should ever sell.... :D . I am really dreaming, aren't I?

1st new Guitar...... 1972 Silvertone 12 string w/trapeeze bridge. New....All plywood...Sold and bought an Epiphone 12 string. Much better.... BOth are gone.

1st GOOD acoustic.....Matrix 12 string with the REAL fretboard. About 1982 or so..Also gone...Top exploded... Bridge pulled off and took a lot of wood with it.

1st electric 1968 GIbson Melody Maker. Looked like an SG. Sold when my wedding band days were over

1 Hollowbody. Black Teisco . Body similar to a Gibson 335. Again, all ply, but not bad through the Fender Bandmaster. Gone with the wind.

Only guitar currently is a Celebrity Dlx RRBY. Also have an Epiphone Mandolin M30
