Location: Yucaipa, California | On Sunday, my wife and I along with another couple went over to the Gene Autry Western Museum across from the Los Angeles Zoo in Griffith Park.
I was quite impressed with the scope and quality of the exhibits. It would be a great "family" outing.
Unbeknownst to me, every third Sunday, they have a Western (hats and boots, no horse)"Open Mic" (without the mic) in their lecture room. There were probably 15 or 20 performers, some in small, 3-4 member groups, all acoustic, playing and singing mostly old "Happy Trails" vintage stuff.
There were more Martin D-28s in one place than I've seen in a very long time. There were a couple of very nice D-45s as well. They all sounded quite good and very Martiny.
Then one brave solo performer got up and sang a few songs while playing a very nice "Natural" Custom Legend!
That Legend sure stood out and held its own quite well. A different voice for sure, but just as pleasant.
There were no "cat-calls", jeers or derisive comments, just appreciative applause and supportive comments.
Very nice to see and hear the guitars side-by-side. | |

Location: Seymour, Tennessee | A few of us left base and went to Busch Gardens (Virginia) the other day and they had a little singing group in the Ireland section, the guitarist was playing a really beat up Legend replete with stress cracks and chips galore but it still sounded great. | |
