I spoke with SLIPKID. So far, Slipkid and Brian are in.

Hope to bring back GuitarWannabe, Twistedlim, and hopefully we can get BVINCE to come down from the Caddilac area.

We had a great bitter cold jam at Slipkid's last winter.

Anyone else who wants to come down let us know.

I think we had about 18 ovation/adamas guitars last time.

To get to Harsens Island, you go about 2 minutes past SlipKid's turn-off. There is a car ferry (7 dollars round trip) that runs every 15 minutes. Once you get across to the Island, we are about a 15 minute drive.

I was thinking we could go from about NOON on Sunday, until 5 or 6 (similar to our last get together).

More details, maps, loose agenda, etc. to follow.

Start letting us know via this thread if you think you might make it. Come one, come all.

Harsens Island is a nice escape.

Yep... I'm in
Harsens Island is a great place to kick back.
It has been called "Little Venice".
Boats, boats, and more boats.
Cool breezes' off the water.

I'm really looking forward to it.

Checked the calendar and I am in. Looking forward to it. Great idea Bob.

My wife now refer's to these as "play dates". I feel like a kid again :)

Ice?
The only ice there will be making a tink, tink, tink sound as it falls into the glass.

guitarwannabee,
we can do electric. In fact, I can bring a drummer and bass player if folks want. We can also set up a litle P.A. system. As it gets closer, I'll solicit for some songs so my buddies can prepare a little. Spoke to the neighbors and warned them about the music stuff. Everyone was cool with that.

My bet is that after this, the neighbors will look forward to the event.

Any members from Midland? (aka: Midloanians)
Or Flint?? (aka: Flintstoneions)
And wasn't there a Canuk from London, Ontario lurking about here somewhere?

Although I'll be returning from the Keys and won't, regrettably, be able to attend, may I send an 'envoy' for the HISMJ attendees signatures?

At the BHJ, Karen (Jewel's Mom) gave me an Ovation book to traverse da OFC jam circuit. I'd love to have some of ya'll enter your ice-free 'mojo' and then have the envoy enjoy further OFC adventures.

LMK if ya'll are interested in guesting such a prodigious visitor...

Looks like I'll be putting in a new water tower and well for the city. So I probably won't be able to get there except by an act of God (OH ... sorry if that's too much religion for some of you ;)

I WILL definitely be thinking about all the fun though. You never know though ... I might have to make a run to the Detroit area for some kind of part or something. (:

Let's see...
Ute strings are fresh... gotta figure out what other git-fiddle I wanna take and make sure those strings are fresh... and practice the "new" song to be sure it's ready for public consumption.

Bob... will we be un-plugged?.. partial plugged?.. or maybe have a double stack of Hi-Watts?

Lookin' forward to it.
Too bad some of you others don't live a little closer.

And yes... I know it's NEXT Sunday.

We will be semi-plugged in (Slipkid, if you could bring your acoustisonic amp, I will have mine). Thought we could get some mikes going this time. I will also have an electic or two around (hopefully we'll get guitarwannabee out).

I won't have the 2080 yet, but I will have

2009 collector
30th anniversary custom legend
40th reissue balladeer
40th anniversary Glen Campbell
Patriot
balladeer 12 string
and a cool Martin O-15 (1957) which I restored recently. This particular model was my 1st guitar

Here are the directions:

Cool. Here are the directions: The more the better.

From Detroit:

Take I-94 East to Port Huron
Get off at Exit 243 (M29 New Baltimore)
Travel about 20 miles on M29.
Look for the Harsen's Island Ferry on right
Take the .3 mile car Ferry ride
When you get off the Ferry turn left. You will bear to the right about 400 feet.
Stay on MI-154 (it will eventually change into South Channel Drive). you will have to bear to the right a couple times. You will travel approx. 6.2 miles from where you got off the ferry.
you will get to a sign that says rough road ahead (you are almost there)
Turn Left on Sax St. (just after Martz)
you will go down a dirt road about 100 ft. We are the second house on the left.
I have a sign in the front yard.
"LAFOND for U of M Board Of Regents

7055 Sax St.

you can also mapquest the address.

7055 Sax St.
Harsen's Island, MI 48028

It is about 20 minutes from SlipKids where we had our bitter cold Jam

Sorry... Last time we took we took "the boys" out like that there was some unfortunate incidents. Turns out they can't hold their booze which then leads to that leg hump thing. So no.... it's kennel time for Fender & Dexter.

Doug, we are all supposed to have Meditation #8 down pat and ready to go. Didn't you get the memo???

Strat sounds good. Looking forward to some fuzzy distortion.

We're bringing Gibson & Lola. Gibson is an "American Bullador", one of them there designer breeds you can pick up for next to nothing at the Dixie Hwy flea market. Lola is a rescued boxer and both are quite active and don't have their manners mastered yet (we're working on it).

Weather is looking to be nice for Sunday!

Thanks to all who came out! The neighbors enjoyed the sounds, and I'm rethinking the "it's a cottage on an island--we don't need air conditioning" argument. Wow, was it a hot one!

Good food, great music and awesome fellowship!

By the time I got there the summer jam had deteriorated to the point where Doug and Bob had were jamming away on electric guitars...but they were good!
I only missed the acoustic session, the boat ride, the basic bs..ing. But, I had a great dinner and received copy of Rhoadsscholar's book. I now have all the information I need to be a great guitar player :) I was paging through it and it is both touching and informative. Thanks Bob!

As a final note, I can't believe B&B only got $3 when they last went busking. I would have dropped a fiver in the case had I been walking by.

Thanks Bob and Christine for your wonderful hospitality. I really enjoyed the day and I look forward to doing it all again. I'll be keeping my radar up for a cottage of my own on Harsen's Island, who knows maybe we will be neighbors!

Nice boat. Who is supposed to be watching where it's going?

I've told Brian that using a capo (aka: kaapo), can help with vocals.
Problem is he keeps thinking that it works by clipping it on the mic.

i think that shirt makes me look fat .

bob/christine thanks for letting me turn that distortion up and put the volume on the amp up past 3 .
i haven't been able to do that in quite a few years .i always loved playing loud electric .
i still say that we bring out the marshall stacks an we put em on the boat and head out to gull island for a live float band drive thru one of these days and blow out a few eardrums for the boaters there.im sure it would be a hit and if we weren't we could get away fast enough that no one would catch us in that boat . ;) GWB

I know where Brian could put that capo if he wants it to make his voice higher.

I'll be posting some video tomorrow .

It was a blast ...

I like the idea of hooking up the Marshall stacks to the go fast boat turning it up past 11

I do look intense. B Minor is a very intense chord and I wanted to make sure it rang out properly (or was it an F#, I don't remember).

Rich, you owe me a new keyboard. I spit coffee all over mine when I saw that picture...

Doug, it was our pleasure having you turn the amp up past 3... you guys sounded really good.

Blame Doug for that one...I was just the uploader. It looks like I missed most of the good stuff. Thanks for your hospitality! Julie was very impressed with my new play friends and their spouses...good people!

Interesting... just heard of this - hadn't logged on in forever.

I own a Heritage 535 semi hollow (my other electric is an Ovation Viper) and our Heritage Owners Club get together is this weekend in Kalamazoo. We are touring the plant, getting a group photo then heading out to the barn for a get-together with a lot of jamming.

Brad, your singing is getting consistently better from the first time I heard you at AI 3 years ago.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks T.
.
In typical OFC fashion, Roady passed out a neat little gift for those who attended. In association with Guitar World magazine Randy has published a very nice instruction book. HERE

And check out this video...

Well, I'm embarrassed & it's to late to edit.
Roady's real name is not Randy... it's Bob.
And I know I knew that.
.
Sometimes it's hard to keep the names and nick-names straight around here.

brad how could you forget that you were looking at the water moccasin snake that just crawled over brian's foot ready to strike him.
but then when you dove down on the ground and grabbed it with your bare hands and threw it in the canal , therefore saving brian's life we all thought what a hero you were.
now there are people on this board who are trying to poke fun of this picture???
if they only knew .
that is my caption and im stickin to it. GWB

Strat sounds good. Looking forward to some fuzzy distortion.
