Just caught sight of this on ebay:

Looks like a nice example (1971? I doubt it! :D ) , but it appears that the neck has been stripped and re-finished with a satin clearcoat - which raises a question:

I'm no expert, but I think I'm right in assuming that stripping off the original varnish would also remove the Ovation logo transfer, yes? So where did the refin guy get a replacement one? As I understand it, those Magnum transfers were larger than the ones used on guitar headstocks, and are pretty much unobtainable now.

Just looks like satin neck to me. Like maybe they just took and Magnum III or IV neck and put it on a Magnum I body, or it was guitar made in the transition period of I II and III IV and that's how it came.

To answer your question, I think the magnums are larger, but I would think there are still a few around. If not, they can be made, but you'd be surprised what can be found if looking hard enough.
