Location: Carle Place, NY | For electric guitar players, the Fender G-DEC is the abolute coolest guitar device I've ever come across. There are 50 pre-set jam track loops and each one has a pre-set guitar amp and effects setting just for that track. You can then adjust the key, tempo and fine tune the amp and effects and save it as a custom pre-set. It's addicting. I didn't expect the sounds to be this good. There's every kind of rhythm. I'm not into metal, but the heavy jam tracks have automatic guitar settings that are amazing. This is more fun than any video game I've ever played. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I'm resurrecting this because I got a G-dec 3 this weekend. My guitar teacher uses one and I am notorious for forgetting everything right after the lesson. I looked at many other practice devices, but the G-dec really does the best job of playing back band tracks, which you can adjust to your practice needs. SWMBO has been counting amps like she used to count guitars, but she was impressed with what the G-dec could do, besides just amplify my mistakes.
She'll be happy if she gets to call it my Christmas present.
The G-dec 3 has some new features, maybe the best being a larger screen that is easier on my old eyes. It has 100 preset band tracks, but it would be nice if I could figure out how to group them by genre, most of which I wouldn't use. My guitar teacher has one of the older versions, so I'd also like to figure out how to import some tracks he has, such as the 12 bar blues in various keys, into my amp. Some of the tracks identify the key they are in, but it would be nice if that was true on each one. This could be a device that absorbs an incredible amount of time, but that will be something else for me to do if I ever get to retire. |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | Jam tracks are excellent for practicing. Mark, there should be a means where you can store certain tracks as presets, and you can organize your presets by genre. With the new RC30 loop, I'm creating my own preset tracks. Probably not as professional as the G-Dec tracks, but fun and functional nonetheless. The Idea preamp with its backing tracks works in a similar manner. |

Stephen, I already found the list of the preset tracks. Silly me, I assumed they would be in an owners' manual. Instead it has a dvd and links to the Fender site, but I was able to find the lists for the new G-dec and the old. The new version has more presets that are a bit less generic. The old models had more basic presets like 12 bar blues in different keys and speeds. Also, there are three new G-decs geared to a specific genre, like blues, country and jazz. A reasonably intelligent person (not necessarily me) should be able to load presets from those models into the user preset section of any other model and customize any of them. Plus the new ones have an SD slot, so I can put tracks on a card. That way I won't have to worry about erasing the factory presets.
Prof, I looked hard at loopers and other devices, but decided that the G-dec had a bit more than I needed for very little money. |

decided it was not for me That's how I got mine, although it sat for about a year before the guy sold it to me. I don't think it would last for anyone beyond a beginner, but for someone who is learning and can't get anyone to jam with, this is a fun little jam partner. It's going to take me more than a week to learn how to use it, but it takes me years to learn most anything that deals with computers. |

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | I bought the Blonde Blues LE model w/foot-switch...it has the looper and sounds 300% better than the original...plus, w/ the SD slot, you can change all or some presets to any of the other models including the LE's plus the many pre's available on the web...cool fun amp. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | The presets from the blues, country and metal models are available for downloading to one of the other models, but the Fender download replaces the existing presets. If I can figure out how to download some of the blues presets to the 99 empty user preset spots in mine, I'll do that. If not, I'll try to download them to an SD card and use it.
The footswitch sounds nice, too, although the chance that I would require a fast change is very small. I like the "senior font" size of the new screen, too. |

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | Mark, you're right...of course you can reverse it and reload the original models for your version again but not use them all at once...I haven't tried to figure it out past that yet...the SD card seems the only way...all in all, for the price, I think it's cool...The GDEC 30 is way better than the original IMHO... |
