Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | Was moving a big woodpile on Saturday and in griping a few pieces of cut cedar, I somehow pulled something in my left hand that controls movement of my left ring finger. I have strength moving it out away from my palm, but very little strength pushing it down and in toward my palm. It moves in conjunction with the fingers next to it, so most of the time it is not noticeable, but by itself, there was very little strength. The feeling was more like numbness rather than pain.
I thought this would seriously impact my playing the next day, but fortunately, the only chord it seems to have impacted is an open G where the ring finger plants the note on the 6th string without any help from the adjacent fingers. I was able to hit it, but the transition was not as quick as I’m used to. Most of the time I just barred it, but sometimes this was awkward, depending on the music. I also use the ring finger for single notes up higher in the frets, but I was able to compensate and use my pinkie. Perhaps we don’t really concentrate on which fingers are doing what until all of a sudden we can’t use one of them.
That was two days ago and the strength seems to be returning, so the concern may be temporary. Nonetheless, this was a bit scarey considering all I was doing was gripping a few pounds of thin wood boards. |

Location: South of most, North of few | Glad it was only a temporary condition Prof. My left fingers have been acting up now and then, like if I try to snap my fingers, it hurts. I'm attributing it to old age. Aleve works pretty well. (old farts club) I kind of like that Phil... :D ;) :p |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | Played for about two hours last evening and while my finger isn't 100%, it feels good enough to the point I don't think about it, so full speed ahead. This should teach me to keep my hands off the wood. |
