Location: Steeler Nation, Hudson Valley Contingent | My thumb gets cut up this afternoon as does my shoulder in a few weeks. So I thought I'd spend some time this morning playing a little guitar before things got all splinted up again.
I did some quick recording of some music I've been trying to work on now and again recently. I hope to do some multi-tracking in the future (not to mention get in a LOT more practice), but they make good pub pieces as well, so I thought I'd do solo versions. Neither piece is touched up at all. My voice is a little gruff today but for Celtic style folk that's OK I think.
The first is a piece by Brendan Nolan; one of the most poignant songs I've ever heard. Far From Their Home is about the immigration of the Irish through the St. Lawrence Seaway in the mid-1800's. Grosse Isle is Canada's equivalent to Ellis Island. Brendan says he "decided to put my re-creation of event that took place on the famine ships to song, in the hopes that the memory of those who were forced to leave Ireland not rest with them in their graves." It's recorded with my 1713-X.
 
To balance out such a dramatic piece, I also put up River (Get it? Upriver? :p ) by Bill Staines. It's another one I first heard sung by Brendan who is obviously one of my favorite artists. It's just a fun song that has that perfect 3/4 rhythm to rock a pint to, and the 1538 obviously likes a feel-good pub song. I would have liked to polish it up a little, but where's the fun in that? :cool:

Location: Steeler Nation, Hudson Valley Contingent | Thanks Alan. The procedure went well, and I'm home recuperating now. But I have to say "OH the pain!"
I mean...
"OH the pain meds! 
I'm thrilled to admit though that, at least within the confines of the boxing glove that is my bandage, I can once again move my thumb without discomfort. The pain is mostly from the incision.
So overall, I'm quite pleased. (Though whether that's from the surgical results, the meds, or both is open to debate.) ;)
Thank you everyone for tolerating my whining and offering so much support.

Really nice! Both your voice and the very poignant song. The guitar is a beautiful instrument, and well-played. Nice job.
