Same photo only bigger.
As you can see, the binding is coming off of my 'new' Legend.
The binding isn't totally falling off, but I imagine that I will have to pull it off to put it back on. :eek: :(
Plus I need to fix the battery box.
OH! I was so distracted that I forgot to just take some beauty shots of it! (hold on a moment...)
  
With a little bit of work, this will be a nice guitar. And my only SSB.
So... What kind of glue should I use? :cool: |

Location: Bellevue, Washington | I'm currently working on putting new binding on the 87c, StewMac recommended Weld-On #16 Cement. This stuff reminds me of model car cement used for those little plastic models, same consistency and smell too!

Location: Caribou, ME | I use Duco cement. Cheap and available. I think it's similar to the stuff Stew Mac recommends. I think I used that once and it was fine, I just continued to use Duco because it was available downtown cheap.
For years I hated Duco cement because I never had much luck with it... what a p___ poor glue, I thought! But everything has it's place.
It works great on 'new' builds because it melts and swells the binding just a tiny bit, helping to fill any little voids from dremel tool boo boos. It works great when grafting in a piece of missing binding to; it melts them together a little.
Warning though, wait a day before doing any scraping (until the binding shrinks back to normal). |

I want something that I can move around while getting it right.
Also, I don't want something that will immediately bond if I spill some on my guitar.
Of course, I have crazy glue. And wood glue. And epoxy glue. But I never have what I need. |

Or my favorite "Interpretationally Open".
Duco and the Stewmac stuff if best for binding because it is the same family of Model glue with the Xylene and Toulene (melts in your mind and on your hands) and holds the plastic well. You can clean up the splatter in the first few minutes very easily and it does seep in and swell before catalizing. Wait a day and follow up with a scraper if needed.
And don't forget to ventilate! :eek:

Location: Caribou, ME | Testors might be similar but I've never used it for binding. You're going to spend a buck on Testors and it might work...or mayb not. Better to spend three bucks on Duco and remove any doubt. |

I have used that on models also, cuz that was what we had in the house.
Plus my folks heard about kids sniffing "Airplane Glue" and wouldn't buy it.
I think Testor's costs more that a buck now. And I might have to show ID. |

What kind of glue do you use on neck bindings?
