Location: Chicago | My video is up HERE at GuitarPlayer. Go to the list at upper left, scroll down about 30 names to "Gregory Dobrov." I think Jeff and I are the ONLY Ovations in the running. In fact, the tune was originally called "BLACK ADAMAS"!
I need your support. There are options to evaluate, comment etc. Let's give the electric shredders a run for their money!! (Some great acoustic sumbissions too...) |

Well, it was enjoyable but a little too World Sinfonia. Right down to the Ovations. No doubt you guys can play and sure I would pay to listen to you in a club but it would be nice if there was a bit....no....a lot less Al Di Meola influence there. Don't get me wrong. I love Al Di Meola but we already have one. In my opinion this tune does NOT have the "DiMeola" sound... What do you think? |

However, he did say he would "pay" to see you in a club so he can't be all bad. |

Illegitimi non carborundum... Don't let the bastards grind you down. Or some opinionated dofus who posts on the internet either.
Play on. |

What bugs me is that just holding an Ovation implicates you in some copycat crime, like the only reason for it is to "BE" Glenn or Al or John or Kaki..... |

We apparently have hundreds of Jimmy's & Jimi's, Eric's & Keith's, Angus's & Zakk's...
And that's alright.
BTW -- I think that sounds Great. |

It's hard to imagine you lacking confidence in yourself musically, Greg. Hard to imagine it, but I understand it. I feel the same way about myelf.
You, however, are certainly one of the finest guitarists around. You're definitely a major league talent, needing only the proper exposure to play your own big shows. I mean this sincerely: you can play -- and stay -- with anyone in the world.
I say that as someone who's a BIG fan of DiMeola, McLaughin, Coryell, and the like.
As regards the sound...what Slipkid said. And it's a great sound. |

BTW... it don't. But I had to try it.. once ...just out of curiosity you know. |

Alan: You are very generous. Curiously, no matter how nation-wide you are or what cheap sunglasses you wear, if you are judged a "clone"...it's all over, baby! |

Location: Texas | Apparently you can vote for one performance as many times as you want? I don't know why they didn't control that. Someone with little talent but lots of friends with time on their hands has the best chance, apparently.
However, I think that is only for 1 of the 10 spots, the magazine picks the other 9? I haven't watched every performance yet, but from what I've seen so far, both Greg/Jeff's song as well as Alan's should have an excellent shot at making the cut.
Nice work guys! Good luck!!! |

Nice work guys! Good luck!!! Thanks, standing! I'm not sure HOW they figure things. I DO know that Dobro appears pretty steadily in their "Top Picks" lists, and that's exactly as it should be.
And, if there's any justice in the world, he'll go to the finals, and he'll win. Thanks again for your kind words! |

Location: Newington, CT | Thanks, Wease! Interesting contest. One observation: Greg seemed to be in the "Top Picks" and "Today's Top Picks" lists every day. This is as it should be. Greg's contribution was just spectacular. Throughout the month, I took in every video at least twice, and Greg's always stood above the others...and there were some truly great players in there.
The "truefire" people -- the web site managers --appeared to have some problems with the site itself. It was impossible to give ratings to some of the contestants without causing some browser error or other. That was a shame, because there was a late entry who did some TASTY slide guitar. He may never have received any ratings at all because of this problem.
All in all, a lot of fun! Go, Dobro!!! |
