I have an opportunity to get an '83 or '84 Country Artist. Apparently he sent the electronics away to be repaired and never got them back. Somewhere along the line the tune buttons (only) got swiped for another use. It's been sitting idle for quite a number of years. I can get it for a hundred bucks shipped.

I'm guessing the tuner buttons can be bought, but am I setting myself up for disaster looking for the electronics?

That particular model had the stacked tone/volume control in the waist of the guitar. Contact the factory. They built a modern version of that preamp back in 2005-06 for use in the Glen Campbell reissues. If they've got them, then they'll sell them and they should fit no problem.

The other alternative is to get the guitar and send it to the factory. They could probably install an OP Pro with no problem. That would be a really great guitar for playing plugged in....

I'd jump all over that! Then I'd get a set of Al's BUFFALO HORN buttons and contact the MS for a preamp.

I like Iffy's idea. Heck! $100 for that guitar is a deal with no pre-amp!

Jump on this one.Look at the early S/N strip and blue Ovation lable.
Looks clean, screw the electronics for now.
You should have no problem getting ovation tuner buttons.
String it up,play it.

I forgot, the saddle/pickup will be the standard on all O's have.Nylon string saddle must be different from the steel string one.

I think there might be a nylon specific version because the intonation is different (nylon treble strings are thicker gauge than their steel counterparts) and bridge/fretboard is flat as opposed to radiussed like a steel string. The internal workings however should be the same.

Thanks for the info. I shored up the deal and will mail a money order tomorrow.

You're right, the saddle should be flat to match the board. That may be a little sticky; I'll email Mr. Budny and beg his indulgence.

I'm not in a terrible rush to get it up and going. It'll happen when it happens.... but of course I don't want to be asleep at the wheel if parts become available.

If it looks as good in person as the pic indicates, I can't see how I can get stung. He sent me a back shot too, and there was no evidence of headstock crack or weirdness.

The serial is 310XXX. The serial number list in the reference section has a little weirdness during that era so I don't know quite where to place it. Could be anywhere from an '83 to an '85.

Yes, definitely.

Moody's likely correct about the stacked vol/tone, as in another pic I only see one hole in the waist of the bowl, along with the white dot for reference. And of course the 'flat' saddle. Any help you can offer would be great.

Money order sent; it's 'in-state' so I might have it by next Tuesday or so.

Now I can agonize over which tuner buttons....

Glad ya grabbed it!

With that classic black HS 'silhouette', I'd go with the black buffalo bone or ebony buttons. Just my...

Based on Al's pics I was thinking the same thing. I think they (or even the rosewood) would look nice with the neck.
