Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | So, I got myself a Standard Balladeer, and I have to brag. It is RED!
It sounds nice. It will sound better with new strings.
But while I am doing that, this has some hellacious pick-tracks!
I could not really get them to show-up in the pics, but I will see if y'all can see...
Listing pic...
My pics...
And maybe y'all can see better in the reflection...
Somewhere amongst my stuff I should have some of that Blue-Soup, eBay Scratch Remover...
But I have never used it on something as nice as this Cherry Cherry-Burst.
So if anybody has any pointers before I start and make a mess, I would appreciate it. |

Although I did put some EJ16's on there. (12-53)
I don't know what were on there... 9-42 or something like that.
The low E was like a D string.
But I am still waiting for Buffing advice. |

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | Okay... I obviously phrased the question wrong.
Or maybe there are local dialect problems...
(Is is a 'Soda' or a 'Pop', are we eating 'Dinner' or 'Supper')
There are many pick-tracks on this guitar...
I need advice about removing them without causing more damage...
So as not to just create more scratches going in a different direction. |

Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | OMA, at the factory they use BIG buffing wheels with jeweler's rouge. They are about 3 1/2 or 4 inches wide and maybe 7 inches in diameter. You just have to go lightly and make sure you have really fine jeweler's rouge.
For light scratches I use "Kit Scratch Out" that you can buy in any auto parts store. I use a little on a rag and a small circular motion. I don't put a lot of pressure on it, just rub lightly. Even though it won't completely take out deeper scratches, it'll make 'em shiny so they don't show so much. |

There are only one or two Deep scratches, and experience tells me that they ain't coming-out.
They will get shiny and less noticeable like you said...
There are just numerous light scratches and they are everywhere!
Even below the bridge.
So I will check that stuff out...
Or I just might take Slipkid's advice and ignore it. |

Location: Suisun City, Ca | I too have a git with pretty heavy scratches. I'll try this also. How about Adams Swirl and Haze remover (Car care) using a random orbit Porter cable...?
OT, what is that black 12 in the background, OMA?
For sale? :)

Dan That is my 2058T... The T-12. It is probably the Last USA made 2058T to leave the factory cuz I had to wait for it after they announced the end of USA Elite and Balladeer production.
For Sale? see recent thread |

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | I searched all the stores and I could not find "Kit Scratch-Out"...
But I did find some of that Blue-Goop eBay "Guitar Finish Restorer" that I misplaced.
(It is probably Kit Scratch Out repackaged and sold in smaller, more expensive, units)
But I used it (carefully) in the most obvious spot under the sound hole.
It did not make more scratch-marks, which is what I was skeered-of...
It did shine-up the light scratches.
Next time I change the strings I will be more thorough.
Another thing that I learnt today...
If you cut microfiber cloth, it leaves little fur-balls everywhere.
(It doesn't like to be trimmed) |
