Location: Newington, CT | What are your strengths / positives as a guitarist or musician?
My answer:
I can play very fast. I love the guitar, love to play and am highly motivated. That doesn't ever seem to diminish, even when I'm exhausted. When I get warmed-up, I can make some REALLY nice sounds. When I get inspired, I can play things that make me say, "Wow! I didn't know I could DO that! That was COOL!" I have a great deal of confidence when I improvise. When I get into it and get going, I can rip through some really delightful solos. I've even produced music -- with this odd style of mine -- that I enjoy listening to regularly. I learn quickly and tend to assimilate new guitar skills fairly easily. Sometimes -- only sometimes -- I have great feel and touch, and I can do some really wonderful things. This gives me hope that one day I'll be able to do it regularly, if not necessarily on command. I have LOTS of musical ideas to develop, and am pretty creative. I feel at home, at ease, comfortable with the guitar in my hands. I can play electric or acoustic. I know what is my "ideally configured guitar," to a fine level of detail. I'm a voracious learner. I want always to grow, to improve, to mature, to expand my musical horizons, to be smarter. I'm cute as a button.
And, last but not least: I've found an extremely valuable resource for information, advice, feedback, learning, coaching, encouragement and more in the Ovation Fan Club. Oh, and I'm not really cute as a button.
You? |

What's GOOD about you is that you are a gun toting republican and in my mind that gives you a free pass on all your negatives.
Now go practice your damn guitar. At least change some strings or something. |

I'm not a great player, but I really enjoy playing a good sounding guitar, that is the best satisfaction for me after a hard days work.

I have to use my fingers... Haha :-D I would love to see those ears in action too.
Bandwise I believe that my greatest capability is the combination of listening and improvising without destroying anything and, when the red button is pushed, stepping forward getting quite expressive.
Finally I am manic about how song arrangements are written - so I write them myself, and the band mates have nothing against that. |

A decent ear.
Fair voice.
Maybe most of all I'm fine with sitting in the basement and listening to good music and trying to copy it. |

As for me, hmmmmm......I can play basic bass when needed, finger-pick and strum well enough to blend into a crowd, but not stand out in it; I guess my best points are the vocals--I LOVE to harmonize; it's just so much more fun than singing lead. I seem to be able to blend with just about anyone, 'cause my voice doesn't have a lot of overpowering qualities of its' own--I don't have one of those voices that gets you a lot of attention, like Joisey Goil #2 or Otto, but that's o.k. Where would Diana Ross have been without the Supremes? ;)
Oh, yeah......there are a few people who think I've written some pretty good songs, too; I know that "a few" doesn't sound as good as "lots of," but they are people whose opinions mean the world to me, and that's what matters......

I can't read music either, but if you give me the chords and a tempo, I'll pick it up fairly quickly. But oddly enough, a truthful answer that would only come from me doesn't involve singing or guitars.
I've always liked to write, and that includes music. I put great effort into devising lyrics that can be read aloud almost as easily as they can be sung. I've discovered if it sounds good with the spoken word only, there's a better than average chance they'll hold their own lyrically as well. (Hope that makes sense.) |

| I made my first few dollars (very few -- $3! :) )Saturday at a music jam at a farmer's market. I must be doing something right, as I wasn't expecting to get anything! ;) .
Actually, the $3.00 means alot as I have been in one of those "I want to chuck it all in" moods regarding my guitar playing. This little sign gives me some encouragement at least.

Then, like my golf game I pick up the instrument and my dream is shattered.
Play on or as in my case hack on, it is better than the alternative.
Edit: - There's a song in there somewhere Title = Playing Guitar in my Mind |
