Location: Newington, CT | The guitar:
----------------------------------------
* Acoustic/electric (Electronics like the iDea, or OP 30, or VIP)
* Cutaway, or 14-fret
* Smooth neck
* Wideneck -- 1 3/4ths inch at least. To permit my big fingers to chord without being all cramped up, AND solo.
* A deep-contour or deep-bowl works equally well.
* Yep. GREAT sound, ie: deep, but bright as well, and well-balanced; resonant, full-bodied, consistent up and down the neck. (My goodness, sounds also like what I'm looking for in a good woman!)
Additional accoutrements:
----------------------------------------
* Heavy pick -- V-Picks are GREAT! Used to use Dunlop 1.14's, but the V-Pick glides over the strings! No, I don't work for V-Pick.
* Medium-Light gauge strings for fast runs.
Conclusion: OFC II wideneck. A 1681 wideneck (if there ever existed such a thing) would be in close second.
I have an OFC II regular neck, and have tried to talk Dave (Gallerinski) out of his wideneck, but no luck (not that I blame him, darn it!). Anyone want to work a trade of some kind? |

Tastes, desires and finances change as well. So todays dream may look nothing like yesterdays dream and will soon be replaced by tomorrows dream.
My REAL "dream" would be to aquire enough free time in my life to sit back, smell the coffee, enjoy the things I've got and be thankful for all the other "things" that really matter in life (none of which are guitars). |

Been searching for one for a good while, even asked the factory if they could special build a wide neck for the Hurricane I have - BUT THEY CAN'T!
Yeah, it was hard for me to believe too that there was an Ovation modification that John and Kim couldn't do!
But there you have it. |

With that said ... I believe that's why they invented the acoustic multi-effects board. Here's the one I currently like to use: Zoom A2.1U ... Anyone know of any better ones than this? |

The "blade" switch is actually a 5-position varitone. The only other mod is possible a fishman strat style powerbridge, but I'm not sold on that idea yet. |

That guitars are great... but the world doesn't revolve around having one particular model or another and that there are a whole myriad of things that are WAY more important. Family, friends, health, stability etc.
If I ever could afford it... I would like to get an acoustic/electric bass built to match my two Adamas' as well as a matching wide neck/ slot head nylon string Adamas (although I'm not sure that would even be possible as the one and only Adamas classical I have heard of didn't seem to go over too well...).
Then I could call it a day... and worry about playing them all as much as they deserve. |

Ergo: I'm "Good" = I'm alive (something that has really gotten my attention this year) with a loving wife and family, more guitars and gear than I can play, a roof over my head that doesn't leak, food enough for all of us, and a renewed purpose in life: making sure the family is "good" as well...no better looking...hair and beard have a lot more of that funky silver/grey...my joints hurt like crazy most days...my golf game has suffered...but in the grand scheme of all things...I'm good (older members might might suspect I'd substitute "blessed")...but I'll just go with "good"... |

Actually, I really liked the Professor's shallow-bowled Adamas--lots and lots. I guess one in dark "Millenium" blue??
But, I have enough guitars, a neat little house, a decent job, many great friends, my family and the blessing of lil' folks now--like Music Mike, I also am "good."

Oh...you wanted GOOD reasons! So, (4) since John owned it, it's probably a REALLY good guitar. As for your question, Jeremiah, I have a very old 1111-4 Balladeer (from somewhere around 1970) that I had an Optima pre-amp put in; she is my "Ol' Lady," and she really produces sound--wonderful old thinner neck, and even though she's not gonna win friends or influence people with her looks (she's one of the "wounded warrior"-type guitars), I could not be induced to part with her under any circumstances. (If I were forced by circumstances to have to sell any of them, the other four would definitely go first...)
Because what we like is so subjective, I guess you'll have to meet up with some of the other Ovationistos on the board in order to sample all the flavors of Ovation "ice cream" that there are...

Location: Utah | Yesterday I pulled out the Newport and plugged into the Fender tube amp. Pure heaven!
While I do at times lust in my heart for other guitars, the three that I have are far better than I ever expected to own. If I never get another guitar, the three will be more than enough. (Adamas 2080, Ovation Viper, Hamer Newport Pro). |

If you find this discouraging... you're not there yet. I strongly agree with all the Zen Masters who indicate that I should learn contentment, find happiness in the meager portion that is my own (Ok, that's a slight exaggeration...), and otherwise eschew the gorgeous-sounding, bling-encrusted, smooth-necked, lightning-actioned, perfectly balanced, gloriously understated, yet bold, bright and flamboyant when necessary, the boomer that can whisper like an angel, the Luciano-Pavarotti-Enrico-Caruso-Thomas-Allen-Ivan-Rebroff, the Guitar-That-Beal-Is-Offering-For-Auction-For-Charity guitar...
However, if I win the lottery, I'm a-gittin' me one.
Or six...
And, I'm a-guessin' that so's EVERY LAST BLESSED CONSARNED PONTIFICATIN' Zen Master on this thread!
In the meantime, Oooommmmmmmmm...
(By the way, MWoody, I love the wideneck! I'll write a review later.) |

Location: Connersville, Indiana | A Deacon, Breadwinner, or a Viper. I have a lot of guitars. Each with their own sound. I tend to use all of them in my recording of music. Each has it's place in a song. That's I would like, just to make good music using every guitar I have, and want to have. |

If I felt I had to be good enough, I would have never bought the Patriot!
There's a Guild Thunderbird up for auction on the Bay, but I don't have the money for it. I hate when that happens -- a dream guitar comes up on the Bay and I don't have the money!

Location: Boise, Idaho | I have resolved not to be a guitar collector, but to be a guitar user. I use all my acoustics and sold the ones that weren't getting used. (Except the Patriot. I used it a lot.) The Hamer Duotone wasn't getting used, so it's gone. The Ultra GSs don't get used, but they aren't valuable enough to sell. Now, I try not to dream about getting an electric guitar, because my experience has been that it would just sit there and I'd be frustrated by my lack of devotion to it. |

Location: Miami | I love my textured T's. But you did say dream guitar, so: I have 2 supershallow dreams:
- A T top like the 1868T but with the OCP-1K pickup and OP-PRO pre, a color burst and/or maybe an inlaid epi like with the sweet T.
- An Adamas, like the 1881, but with a black cherry burst, bass side only soundholes and no leafs for a cool look and maximum boominess, ebony fretboard for maximum speed and expressiveness, and of course the OCP-1K pickup and OP-PRO preamp for the ultimate gigging experience.
Someday my Prince Adamas will come... |

How about a wideneck, textured top Q? You could add THAT one (if it exists) to my list also!
(though I still hunger after Dave's wideneck OFC II!) |

Location: Orlando, FL | I'm very happy with my current mix of guitars, but when has that ever stopped GAS? My next guitar will probably not be one I have lusted over, but a "target of opportunity" - some great guitar that becomes available, that I become infatuated with and suddenly must have.
The guitars I dream about owning are all in the same basic price neighborhood, but my GAS funds always get diverted to more pressing needs.
Number one on the list is the OFC II. I am hoping everyone else just magically forgets that Dave's wideneck OFC II is for sale until I save enough money to buy it - fat chance!
Next Is a Collings CJ. After Playing both Beal's and G8r's, I really want one. These are just great guitars.
Next is an unusual archtop, an Eastman Pagelli . I have no idea what they sound like but I think they are really beautiful. I have an Eastman archtop, that I like a lot. I think they make great guitars and are generally a very good value.
I'll probably just have to be content with the great guitars I already own, at least for a while... |
