Ovation is hitting the streets and creating a revolution at Ovation dealers throughout the US…guaranteed to be a night you won’t want to miss!

Ovation’s Roundback Revolution gives roundback loyalists and acoustic fans alike the chance to get to know the brand up close and personal. Reps from our factory will be on hand to present the history of the roundback along with the Ovation innovations that literally changed the shape of music. Perform in our “Acoustic Showcase” and get the chance to win $5000 in gear for you and your band mates. Not only that, but we’ll film your performance and feature it on Ovationguitars.com, and send you home with a cool boutique T-shirt and set of Fender strings.

How does a custom Ovation sound? Any way you want it to! Just for showing up, you will be entered into a drawing to win a custom Ovation from our New Hartford, CT workshop ($5000 value). While you’re at it, bring your guitar to Ovation for a string change, courtesy of Fender Strings. And when you’re looking to test out those strings, you can give them a good workout with a song book featuring tab from some of our top acoustic artists through the years, courtesy of Premier Guitar and Guitar Edge.

The evening will be capped off by sales specials (or as we like to say Roundback Rollbacks), product demos, giveaways and more. In addition, we’ll be showing off one- of-a-kind guitars from our factory vault…all available for sale.

So what are you waiting for? Check our calendar and find out when we’re coming to a city near you. Viva la Roundback Revolution!

Brad, history says they will hit all the big towns in Kansas, Wyoming, Nebraska, and New Mexico and skip the cow town of Denver......then jump over to Phoenix and the west coast.

Yeah... it looks like the mid-west swing is gonna miss the Motor City.

Work is a issue... But I'm thinking I can sneak out a little early.. drive 4 hours... do the thing... drive back home, grab a couple hours sleep, then be back at it Thursday morning.

WOW! For once there's something coming to my area (Well within a couple hours anyway) I am going to try and get there. The free string change would definitely be cool if they were doing EXPs. I could bring the whole collection down and make out like a fat rat.

All right guys and gals, Indiana gets two stops and they are both just a cool drive away from Me. I"m there, maybe both at FT Wayne and Muncie. Muncie is an 1/12 hour drive, Ft Wayne a little longer.
It's only gas.

Vince... the math behind that just don't work out.
If that's the case, just stay home, save $ on gas and buy 3 sets of strings.
You'll come out ahead.
.
And look... If I'm gonna drive from here you sure as heck can drive from there.

I'm looking at 9-10 sets of strings, along with the roadshow visit. The trip is under 2 hours and is close to a mall (which makes the wife happy). Since I live away from pretty-much any major civilization, it makes for a nice time to to a little shopping.

Huntsville, Alabama is the last stop for September, so they are turning East after Salina, Kansas. I've got some friends in Salina that might be able to check it out.

I just got this note from Tony at Victory Litz Music.

Tony and I go a ways back and I'm proud to see they are kicking off the tour at his store in Maryland. For those that can't make New Jersey, this might be an option? Hey, why not do BOTH. In fact, who's going to follow the whole tour ?? But I digress. If you do get to Victor Litz, tell Tony I said hello.

Victor Litz Music is the first stop on the Ovation Road Show tour

Ovation Road Show-Wednesday Sept. 8th at 6:30 PM Ovation Road Show. Ovation clinic, special Ovation guitar sale. Performance and a chance to win a $5000 Ovation guitar.

Ovation is hitting the streets and creating a revolution at Ovation dealers throughout the US and they are starting the show at Victor Litz Music Center…guaranteed to be a night you won’t want to miss!

Ovation’s Roundback Revolution gives roundback loyalists and acoustic fans alike the chance to get to know the brand up close and personal. Reps from our factory will be on hand to present the history of the roundback along with th...e Ovation innovations that literally changed the shape of music. I hit the West Seneca Guitar Factory show Thursday night. Pretty low key but very informative for those who haven't been properly indoctorinated. The Kaman guys (Adam and Danny) brought a handful of very nice Adamii that were put on display for any hands that wanted to pick them up and try them out. Only a couple of players came out (that was a little disappointing) but there was one young guy (maybe 19 or so) who was a killer singer and pretty good player. Talked with a handful of others and had a great time. Adam demo'd an iDea and did a nice job of showing how fun it can be. I've seen it before and he had me thinkin' about it...

Wish it were a little longer (my drive was two hours each way for a two hour production) but I would recommend it especially if you're looking to try out some nice Adamas models that you're DEFINITELY not going to be seeing in any local GC.

I'm still shooting for the Firehouse Guitars visit near Grand Rapids, MI this week. I wonder if they'll put new strings on my Ovation Magnum Bass also??? (:

Anyone have a contact phone number they can PM me, so I can ask the guys some questions ahead of time?

I called the site in Muncie Indiana for the times and such. I asked if they would re-string and electric with larger strings for free also, and the owner said no just acoustic guitars. Vince you might as well bring it see what happens. I just can't wait to go. I have never held let alone played an adamas, because I can't afford them. But I will give it a ride.

Well ... I just called the store and they informed me that things are not kicking off until 5PM and into the night. That is going to create a problem, since I just got rid of the two vehicles I had and bought one, and the wife has plans for its use on Wednesday night. Oh well.

I REALLY like this roadshow idea. I hope they'll look at possibly expanding the idea to include more locations. I really wanted to go to the MI one, but would have to fight the wife for the car that night. This would also be a good way to organize and promote a lot more OFC gatherings.

... Oh, by the way ... If I ever run away from home, I'm gonna' find some way to pitch my tent near Al's Lost Vintage shop.

To be to harsh. Rick explained that he was on the west coast yesterday morning.

Moody... He was real impressed with the condition and the playabilty of a 41 year old guitar.

Bobbo.. about the shoes... When I'm gonna drive for 3 hours straight, I don't tie up the tennys.

Nothing on the website yet. If it's really a roadshow they should be driving through Colorado on the way up from Texas. Since we don't have any dealers in Idaho other than GC, there's probably not much chance they'll stop here. Maybe I'll wave as they drive by.

Sam, it isn't necessarily an annual CD but contributions are always welcomed.

Best bet is to just log in at least once a month and keep your eyes opened for any announcements.

I am hoping Dave decides to do another one in the next 3-4 months.

T28, I was chatting with a few of the other usual suspects and thinking maybe spring-ish would be a good time to launch another CD assuming that's OK with the site owners.

Glad you posted that, it got me to check the schedule again and now I see that one's scheduled at Texas Music Emporium in the Houston area. (10-19) That's good news, TME is a great (and independent) shop… very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Any OFCer's planning to attend?

Looks like it'll be me and 'Zilla at Sam Ash Orlando on Friday 10/8. Bringing my 08C, I'm sure the 2 of us will jam some blues.

More dates and places posted on the Ovation site. They're skipping Colorado and going from Texas to Alaska, hitting several places in Washington, Portland, California and Arizona.

Looks like Southern California in early to mid-January. Only one appearing at the moment, but I'd bet there are more to come. I'm sure I can make one of those since I'm planning a trip out there at that time.

The Orlando show is in the books! It was a blast. It's great to see Ovation actually doing some marketing. There were even young people there! Events like this will hopefully build the next generation of Ovation fans.

Thanks to g8r for coming down. It was great to see you and a hell of a lot of fun jammin' with ya!

As for the event, The guitars were very interesting. I like the 2080 style guitar a lot. The cutaway Adamas models were very nice but all sounded very similar to me. There were 2 wood topped Adamas models, one with a contour bowl and a cutaway, one deep bowl with no cutaway. They were very nice, but I think a nice 1537 sounds better.

Anybody who has a chance to go to one of these GO! YOu won't regret it.

Well that was fun! Thanks to 'Zilla for the pre-show hospitality, always a pleasure to see you and Mrs. DZ. We really should get together more often than just a couple times a year!

The Roundback Revolution was well done. Great history and information for the "non cognoscenti" (shout-out to Cliff). Danny and Adam were both knowledgeable and enthusiastic and present a great public face for the company. The staff at this particular Sam Ash were also very friendly and accommodating and deserve recognition. One of them even bought an iDea guitar for themselves.

Turnout was pretty good, probably 25 or so people, though about a third of those left before the open mic/song taping began. A couple of youngsters (brothers, early to mid teens) with some fine skills, a 20-something guy who did a flawless rendition of "Mediterranean Sundance", and another 20-something lady with some great pipes who did an original. Mixed in with those were some old farts (including me and 'Zilla). I was happy to see the younger Ovation fans - means good things for the long-term prospects of the brand.

The guitars were cool, especially the one-offs. But as 'Zilla said, none were any better than what either of us already own. That's not to brag, but just saying that both of us have spent quite some time (and no small amount of money) acquiring examples of some of the finest guitars to come out of New Haven, thanks in large part to advice and recommendations from folks here.

Anyway, it was well worth the drive for me, and I highly recommend it for anyone contemplating going.

A couple more things...
All the guitars were very nice and I tried to isolate myself from the noise a bit so I could actually hear the guitars. Then I played the same thing on them back to back. They all sounded and played great. The three cutaways sounded not only very similar but almost exactly like Serge's 2008 Collector's, which is damn good. The 2080 had a voice of it's own.

If I hadn't just bought the Adamas II and a made a couple of other purchases, I probably would have come home with a new Adamas.

I told the guys running the show that it was great to see Ovation doing some real marketing and one of them said that this was only a start. This is part of a 5 year marketing campaign. Expect to see and hear more from Ovation.

And again, if you get the chance to attend one of these - GO.

Those are some nice looking guitars, with subtle changes to some of the epi's. They've definitely come out with some freshening (not in the dairy cow way) of the style. The wood topped A is especially nice looking with the brown binding. I bet with 20 years of playing it will become a sought after instrument like the 1537.

They're all for sale. If you're nice to Adam and Danny they might even give you a price break. The black cutaway to Danny's right in the first picture looks almost exactly like my 08C, except the bowl doesn't have the gold sparkles and it has the carved headstock instead of the slothead. To my and Steve's ears it sounded identical to my 08C, and that was the one I used for the performance. All the other Adamas cutaways were so darn close as to not matter.

I wasn't quite as impressed tonally with the wood top Adamas. They were very good, mind you, but Steve's 1537 (that he brought along) bested them.

See? There's the problem. Side-by-Side comparison.
But like FlySig stated, after a coupla years of playing the new one might sound similar.
Cuz that pseudo-1537 sure looks Nice.

(But I cannot afford one... Those numbers have Commas in them! )

Good point about those tops opening up after a few years of playing. But considering the market price of a 1537 right now...

It looks like that wood topped Adamas that Zilla's playing has the Adamas I mounting ring. In the wood topped guitars that I've played (a couple), that extra depth gave it a great deep sound.....

Yep - traditional brown mounting ring. Maybe it was the venue (cavernous, noisy), or maybe it just hasn't opened up yet.

So what time do they start? I saw one started at 6:30, but don't see times posted on any of the others. SWMBO is talking about going to the one in Bellevue instead of Portland. I need to check flight times.

The reason I say that is that the Adamas I bridge doesn't have a lot of break over the saddle. It works on the carbon fiber guitars, but I suspect that it robs this particular guitar of some needed power. They should put an Adamas II bridge on it for a better break angle. It won't look as cool, but I bet it would sound better.....

The other nice thing is that this guitar has the LX neck and dual action truss rod. I have not see it in person yet but have been told that the inlaid epis are very nice and a perfect contrast to the raised body binding.

The one I'm playing in the picture has a hand laid deep bowl. The cutaway woodtop Adamas has a hand laid contour bowl.

These are really nice guitars and they play great. But I think the standard Adamas tops sounded better and were louder as well.

Go to an event check 'em out and tell us what you think - YMMV.

I am still kicking myself in the ass for not buying the 2080 style guitar. Sam Ash was giving a 10% discount and layaway was available. This was a classic case of "you snooze you lose".

FYI: I think there has been some rescheduling. The Roadshow is in Richland on THURSDAY, not Wednesday, and in Tacoma, on Wednesday.
The manager tells me they plan to start setting up about 3:30 PM, for the 5:00-7:00 PM show.

I just noticed a bunch of new ones posted last night, but I missed Bobbo's. We have quite a few OFC reps as Hometown Heroes now. Nice job. If they ever come to my hometown, I promise I won't chicken out. I'll just have to find some really dark glasses.

Music Power is a great shop. Last time I was down there, they had several USA model Os and As, including a hard to find Country Artis LX.

I was very impressed with their selection.

Yesterday, as I was told, San Diego was the last of the tour...believe I was the only OFC'er there. An Ovation 'ee asked me if I knew Paul Moody as he had met him at the stop in Tustin.

Tempted, so tempted :( :D :(

Good time for all (probably 60 in attendance).
When they could, every guitar available was being checked out and played...some by some 'pros' from yesteryear. A pretty good number of wood box players were impressed with the contour bowl. One yelled out "hey, it doesn't slip!"

From what I saw, with the help of Ovation's staff and the effort of GuitarTrader/Music Power, this tour did a lot for Ovation and Adamas here.

Paul,

He was very impressed with your OFC guitar and the mediums.

They didn't restring guitars...when I checked to see if Joe Montoya (our district rep) was going to do the restringing, I was going to bring #50 so we could watch Joe sweat a little restring the slothead.

The Roadshow today was interesting even for a die hard Ovation fan. But the two guys doing the presentation know less about the guitars and company history than the average OFCer, so don't expect to learn much new. It is a good chance to play a variety of current production guitars.

They had a variety of Celebs and AX guitars on display. We were encouraged to play them all. With the exception of a couple pretty low end Celebs they all sounded good, pretty equivalent to the USA LX models. The 2078TX was not as loud or quite as lush sounding as my daughter's USA 2078T. Quality of fit and finish was quite good. Overall a much better experience than the usual Guitar Center dirty guitar with dead strings.

There were only one carbon topped Adamas, the Melissa Etheridge 12 string, and no mandos or ukeleles.

The wood topped Adamas is an outstanding guitar! Arguably the best sounding wood topped Ovation I've heard. It would be worth playing a 1537 or other older model next to it. The bridge looks spectacular on a modern guitar. The suspension ring adds a nice classy touch to the appearance in addition to the sonic improvements.

The one big disappointment was that the video open mic was limited to ten, and the list was some kind of secret private sign up prior to today. Walk-ins like us were not able to perform for the Hometown Hero segment. If you want to do the video when the RoadShow comes your way, call the hosting venue well ahead of time to find out how to get on the sign up list.
