Saw this on eBay several days ago...it flew apparently under the radar...Pic's are from the seller and not of good quality...I'll take care of that later...it needs cleaning and new strings...Thanks to Ovation Rescue Inc. it already has a new home. ;)

I missed that one too.
Even though I can't afford to buy anything, I troll E-Bay for O's a lot.
I'm HOPING to win one nice and cheap for my Son that I've bid on ending today.

Congrats Mike. The seller held that for me for a while, but I could never raise the cash. An extremely rare instrument that I would have LOVED to pair with my Elite and mando...

Oh well...

C'est la vie.

Um...

Lemme know if you decide to move it OK? ;) :)

Wow, that's why I wish I had credit cards, and at the same time i'm glad I don't. I seen that on e bay but the pics didn't look that good. congrats on the rescue Mike. I had to sell my 12 string when times got a little rough around here, but I bought an Applause 12 string for $100 so that will just have to do.

Way to go

Somebody needs to have the entire set. Nice pick-up, Mike. I gotta believe that old Martin is getting pushed to the back porch. Let me know when its hit the alley and needs a new home.

You all might want to bookmark the Seller, He's moving a lot of outstanding Ovations.
Not giving them away but very reasonable.

I was watching but my GAS fund is almost non-existant.
Very good get!

The seller (Steve) promptly contacted me and gave me some history on this guitar...he seems to be completely honest and straightforward...he bought this direct from someone most of us know at the factory along with several other guitars over the years...it has never been played and has remained in pristine condition...I will be happy to take much more detailed pic's when it arrives later this week...I have to say that finding guitars like this is icing on a cake...I can't wait to play it...more later...

Wow, congrats, Mike! What a great grab!

I wonder, which one of the "books" is the rarest?
Must be the mandocello, followed by bass and longneck? Does anyone know exactly?

Best regards,
Kurt

No, Brad, it's right here and quite content... ;)

My guess would be the bass.
Rumor has it that there is "ONE" 5-string bass in existence.

Didn't realize the Book 12 was a super shallow bowl. Were all the 12's super shallow?

There is also one Book Viper 12-string, which would qualify it as pretty rare.

So, the 5-string bass and 12-string Viper should be the two most rare.

I did not see a 6-string Viper till now as well, I think.

Thanks, guys!

Best regards,
Kurt

Nice Grab Mike. Congratulations!

I was looking at it also, but I don't care for a 12 string in anything but a deep bowl.

Plugged in, they all sound great! If you recall the results from the guitar sound test that I ran several years ago, the SSB fooled a great many folks...and that was straight into the mic...
As for rarity, I doubt you will find another for sale any time soon...I only know of perhaps one other...but I do know this one's pedigree...

I saw this along with the 6-string "Book" he had up. He also had a really nice '01 redwood as well. Beautiful find!
