Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | Well ... I'm having elbow surgery on Friday the 10th. Something having to do with cutting and repositioning the ulnar nerve. I asked the orthopedic surgeon if there was something he could do while he was in there to improve my guitar playing.(besides locking it in the playing position)He suggested he could install a tuner, but I said I'd pass on that one. Anyway ... Any ideas of what to do for the following three weeks without being able to play my guitar? He said no driving either. (no sick right hand jokes please) |

…but it's good advice, resist the temptation, you'll be much better off in the long run…

Take an online course or check out some podcasts on writing.
Pencil out possible lyrics and observations, start listening to songs you like and ask yourself why you like them.
Break the songs down in your mind and discover the parts that make up the whole. The story, the little "blossoms" of color the other instruments toss in.
When you get the green light to play you'll have a whole new perspective and some new material.

Let me know how it goes.
My insurance just jumped up another $100 a month (and I haven't used them in 7 years) so I am gonna get about 30K worth of needed surgeries between now and the end of the year and stick it to them!!!! |

Kinda like watching "Hee Haw" and the "Dukes of Hazzard" before hitchhiking to Daytona? |

Location: Connersville, Indiana | After having 5 major operation, including replacing my right shoulder with plastic, not counting my chest, and when I feel off the house I shattered my skull and they did not think I was going to make it. In that time of sitting around, I wrote, the songs Cry for Help and Cajun Queen for my cd. I do know what you are going through. Be careful with your arm and I hope you have some good support at home for you. It took me over 6 years just to pick up a full gallon of milk. If It was not for the support of Karen, and my friends. Well lets say I would not be in the shape I am today.
My prayers are with you |

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | I wish you speedy recovery...although I could play guitar during my ongoing recovery, I still cannot sing, and for a singer, that's tough. The waiting is the hardest part (wow, that would make a great song...). I suggest watching some music DVD's as well as listening to your favorite's...do as Al and your doctors say: leave the guitar alone until you get the green light to play again.
Best wishes... |

| Hope you have a speedy recovery. What do do during the three weeks of recovery?
As the others have said, absolutely no guitar. Read guitar magazines. I would also suggest watching the "Have You Seen Jim Croce Live" dvd.

I went through surgery last year and it was nice to learn different things and am fine now. Wish you all goes well with the surgery and with the recovery. If you do PT, go easy following the recommended excersives, step by step and don't rush. That is what is important; later on you will have more ideas and ready to start playing again.

When I was out of commission for a while earlier this summer, the medication kept me from doing anything too detailed. For the first time in a long time, I just tried to relax. And oddly enough, found nostalgic, pleasurable bliss eating italian ice and watching shows I had not thought about in years like Hogan's Heroes.
It won't be long before this is just another war story to be told while drinking beer at a jam session. |

I see, we all become old now. I've that issues, too. But not in the arms, I've them at my knees. And that's the advantage, I don't need them for playing guitars.
It's only for a few weeks, stay strong and be healthy as quick as possible.

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | GOOD NEWS! (I think)...
Went to the hospital this morning and got all prep'd. The doctor came in and looked at the elbow and found a small rash, so he decided to postpone the operation (: So I'm back at work now, watching for the brown truck.

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | Well she finally made it in. I was a little suprised to see the 1547 style epaulets on it, but they DID say they've run out of the old-style eppis for this model. There is a little discoloration along side the epaulets where the old ones were previously, but it's not that noticeable. There were also a few dings the seller did not mentioned, but it looks like the factory filled them in. Overall the guitar looks and plays great. It just looks like a morph between an 87C and a 1547, which is kinda' cool. Does anyone know what the fretboard is made of? it looks a bit different to me than ebony, and I can't find the collector's guitars on the factory website. I'll post pics as soon as I get a chance. |
