I just got word that the roadshow is coming to the great Pacific Northwest.

November 2, 2010 @ Hugo Helmer Music, Burlington, WA

November 3-4, 2010 @ Ted Brown Music, (TBA Eastern and Western WA locations)

November 5, 2010 @ Bellevue American Music, Bellevue, WA

November 6, 2010 @ Apple Music, Portland, OR
I think we can put a "gathering" together in a month... nothing fancy... but I have the space, and can get more. Hugo Helmer is 5 minutes from my house.

I have not contacted the local rep yet (I just found out) but will. We may have some interesting pieces to bring to the event at the store.

For those not from around here.. THIS IS A BIG DEAL !!!! Ovations are few and far between. Most of us with even small collections own more Ovation guitars than probably all of the Ovations in stores in Washington state at this time put together.

It looks like they are hitting EVERY music store in the state aside from Guitar Center and a couple of small shops. Very Cool !!!!!

I'll be watching for the Eastern Washington locations. We have a Ted Brown's Music in both Yakima & Kennewick. I will also pray for no snow on Snoqualmie Pass, around that time! November 2-to-4 is midweek, unfortunately. Portland on a Friday.
Would be great if there was a stop somewhere on a Saturday.

I gotta get that date from Apple Music Row!
(There weren't nuthin' on their website)

I gotta stop in and see Chuck anyway, there haven't been any Ovations in the Acoustic Store's front windows the last few times that I rode by there on the train.

I can make it to Kennewick in 4 hours or less, but it looks like Friday the 5th is Bellevue, so maybe Portland is Saturday the 6th. That may be a better option for me. Second best may be to fly to Seattle for the weekend. Good incentive to visit our daughter.
Maybe they'll come through Boise on the way back, but if they don't stop at GC, there aren't any other Ovation dealers here anymore.

I know. I've bought that ticket for my daughter a couple times. I have a bunch of relatives in Portland, though, and the weekend works better. I didn't know Ted Brown was in Tacoma. We still haven't visited our daughter who is going to school there. Lots of birds to kill on this roadshow. I will have to make at least one.

I think Tacoma is "The MotherShip" for the Ted Brown chain. That's where the ads are postmarked, anyway.
Yeah, OK, the 6th is a Saturday; so sue me. Oh, should I be saying that to an attorney?!

Any idea on what time the events start? Horrible timing, I'm going to be in Tacoma all that week in class until 9 at night ; ;

I was disappointed when the first set of dates came out and didn't see PNW on there, but now this is even more frustrating!!!!

Miles, if you get any updates on the times, please post them. I keep checking the website, but they don't have anything current and we'll need a bit of lead time to make plans, plane reservations etc. to travel that far.

Ovation has the new dates and places on their site now. Richland on Wednesday and Tacoma on Thursday. I might try to make Bellevue on Friday, but most likely I'll try Portland on Saturday. They are hitting California and Arizona next.

I think that's the first time I ever double posted. I got one of those Internet connection has expired messages when I was clicking back and forth between the two threads on this and the Ovation site, so maybe that's what caused the double post.
To answer your question, yes, there may be at least two of us. If I go to the one in Portland, I might talk a brother or two into coming with me.

OK, Wednesday, November 3, 2010, in Richland, WA, at Ted Brown's Music. Looks like I will represent The Hive-Mind at that locale.
I will have to contact them for the specific hours-of-activity.
Interesting, Burlington-Richland-Tacoma-Bellevue-Portland. They are really blanketing the area, it seems.
Should be fun!

Should we coordinate efforts to have some unique Ovations present? I'm thinking about the OFC or the 2010 Collector, so I might take both. We need to get Waskel to the one in Portland with his LAV Koa. It might be nice to show people what Ovation can do on custom jobs.
Miles, it must be nice to have a decent Ovation dealer so close. I guess I have huckleberries, though.

Ummm yes, it would be nice. I have not been in the store in a couple of months, but on periodic visits over the past 4 years I have only seen two Celebrities on the wall. Maybe it's just a timing thing :)

However... check out the Web page and "Tour" of their store. It is a VERY nice store, and very nice staff. http://www.hugohelmermusic.com/

I have the custom 12 string Elite LX I could bring along.

Obviously I'd plan to go to the American Music Bellevue event. Besides, that's the store that started it all with me on Ovation acoustics.

I had my UKII for 20+ years before I bought my first roundback acoustic. I actually went in there to buy a Taylor or Breedlove, but tried the 1778LX and fell in love with the playability as well as the tone.

Then I joined this place.. That's when the disease really began to take hold.

So is anyone coming to Bellevue? I'd be open to going to Tacoma, but American Music is a 4 minute drive for me.

You are minutes away and I know you can get 17 guitars in your rig, so bring them all. If I fly up and can bring only one guitar, what would you like me to bring (besides a bottle of Syrah)?

Miles has the OFC, Woody has a LAV Koa, so I was thinking about the 2078, too. I'm also dreading the hassle of trying to carry it on the plane.

Well the older guitars would be fun if we have a get-together at my house, but the event is all about the , current, NEW and future offerings of Ovation and I'd like to support that effort, especially up this way (Skagit Valley) cause while the music community seems to recognize that Ovation makes great guitars, you don't see many, and likely the only way to get one, is to order it.

I will have a display of Rick Epting's 12-String there. It's an amazing instrument that was played pretty much every day for many years. Cannon doesn't even begin to describe the tone and volume of this thing. But that's just going to be there cause Rick was a popular local celebrity, although he's probably not like me using that term. I have heard so much about him and his life that I'm very sad I never got to meet him, and yet I feel like I have.

Anyway.... I'm looking forward to seeing what they have on the truck!!!

I'm thinking the same way, Miles. I love to see all the old guitars as well as the new ones, but this is obviously an effort by Ovation to promote its new products. That's part of the reason I'd bring the 2078 or the OFC or the LAV Koa--to show off what Ovation can do presently, but I expect Ovation can do that without our help. No one would want this to blow up into a "didn't they make some great guitars back in the day"? sort of thing.
In that respect, I probably shouldn't bring anything and just play with the new Ovations, but somebody else might like to play the 2078. Maybe we could get together on Saturday and play some guitars. I'll bet that SWMBO and daughter will be out shopping and I could get away for several hours. Long enough for you guys to give me some lessons.
Damon, shipping it would scare me as much as taking it on the plane.

Still no word on when they start? I need to make plane reservations.

Here's what ya do Mark... just get in around noon and find the nearest HOOTERS to loiter at for a while till the event.
To take it further... Find out when a couple of the "wait staff" get off work and arrive at the music store with one on each arm... (or is that two on each arm???)

If they don't start too early, I should be alright. We can get in at 3 something and wait for our daughter to pick us up. If that doesn't work, I'll be in touch about bumming a ride. I just tried to call BAM, but they closed early. I see the Taylor one is the week before and starts at 6. I hope the Ovation one starts a bit later and goes past their usual closing time of 7.

Look forward to meeting you. I got an email from BAM saying that the restring is from 4-6 and the event starts at 6. I probably won't make the restringing and may not bring a guitar anyway, but will be there before 6.

Anyone want to throw together a gathering on Saturday? We're still planning on attending the one in Bellevue Friday and Damon and I talked about going out for Thai food afterward. Then we will stay in Tacoma till Sunday.

Mark, I'd love to host, but I don't have much of a place for entertaining....

Too many guitars all over the place.

I just told my daughter not to worry about leaving her guitar in her car all day so she could bring it to Bellevue, because between Ovation and Damon, there will be a ton of guitars there, most of them Damon's.
I figure Mom and Daughter will probably end up in a mall somewhere Saturday afternoon and I'll need to find something else to do. I should probably check to see what they have planned other than visiting her school.

The Burlington show was a blast and even met a brand new OFC member who I'm sure will show himself here in the forums.

It was really nice to see Ovations in town, and I think they sold a few guitars too. There were a lot of impressed faces. The iDea preamp seemed to be the largest hit as we have a lot of singer/songwriter types in the area.

Doesn't look like any OFCers went to the Tacoma one. I need to remember to bring the camera to the one tomorrow, but if Damon's there, I'd be too embarassed to post my pictures alongside of his.

I represented Our Order in Richland. Small group of attendees. Good presentation by Adam & Danny, though. That Idea preamp IS pretty slick.
Played some nice guitars, and entered the drawings. Nobody took the option to perform. Certainly, not moi.

It's ready to go. We'll be there in a few hours. We decided not to check luggage, so no guitar and no Syrah.

'Purple' is right around the corner from the Thai place, besides, I have plenty of wine.

I don't know that I should bring all the O's, even though it would be a lovely history lesson. I was thinking just current ones, so...

Adamas 2080
Elite 1778LX
Custom Custom Elite C2078LX 12 string BCS
Al Dimeola Custom Legend

Or should I bring others?

Hey Miles, you think they'll re-string a 12? :D

I agree with Miles' earlier statement. We're going to Ovation's show, not our show to show off our Ovations. Anyway, that's my excuse for not bringing a guitar. It makes some sense to bring something newer, so it doesn't lead to a discussion of the good old days and discontinued models, unless part of the sales pitch is going to be how they can build a custom model just like one of the discontinued models.
Maybe I should have gone to the one in Richland. I wouldn't have been overwhelmed by the show of talent by everyone but me.

We got no offers for restringing last night, so I would have been somewhat presumptuous at taking in one of my BFLG Spcials.
As for presence of talent, yes, I was the at the nadir. Some young woman of, likely, early 20-ish, grabbed hold of a 2080 "one-off", and sounded like Al Dimeola- "I've been playing about 5 years". Crap, just shoot me.

Tough week for me, missed it all and won't make Portland tomorrow.

I was able to plan out a successful "Walk the Plank" event at work AND attend training to get my Mediator certification!

Guess I'm just stuck here with you's guys...

It's been a spendy day, first buying the Adamas, then there was a deal I just couldn't pass up at the show.

I now have a brand new black custom elite contour to go with the black adamas I bought from al earlier today, which matches the black 2080, then there's the black al dimeola and of course the black vxt...

How much more black could my collection be? It wasn't so long ago I remember saying I didn't like black guitars.

I guess the saying's true... once you've had black...

I swore to myself that I would bring a camera... Of course I forgot.
They had a great presentation. And I learned something about my Adamas guitar...
Adam PUNCHED his... And I have been concerned about taking mine outside?

Then they did the video thing and I played... And I was skeered.
They say that they will put it up on the Facebook or YouTube (whichever) in a coupla weeks.
Only four other acts played, a Duo, and three other single performers.
One jar-head was really good, and he didn't need amplification!
He said that he learned to push from his diaphragm while singing Cadence.
Since I sang they gave me a T-shirt.
But it has a Celebrity on it! See?

The only other OFC'r there was David (DVD), and he sends his regards.

Oh! And I got to play three "One-Off" Adamii...
The Wood-Top, and a Black cutaway... I played a Red cutaway for the Video.
None of them had Manhole Covers!
Adam said that they've learned that they sound better that way.
I also played a TX for a moment to see if it was drastically different from a T.
Since I couldn't do a side-by-side, I cannot give you an opinion on that one.
But it is always fun to play expensive guitars.

Somewhat of a dilemna, though. What happens if some of the innards go kerphlewy?

You can access the innards thru the pre-amp hole by popping out the pre-amp and removing the can. That works just fine for simple things like accessing the jack(s) to tighten/remove them. Of course, if you need to repair the braces or some such you'll need special tools (that they have at the factory).

I was gonna ask him that... But this is the dude who Punched his Adamas.
(He is also carrying around a Celebrity that they shot 32 times with a 45 caliber pistol)
I wasn't sure that he would relate to me wanting to go under the hood and tinker with stuff.
The stance that they had been taking in the presentation is that Adamii are almost indestructible.

And I just received a two photos from the Roadshow...
This the the Marine with the booming voice, he was gonna grab that Honeyburst Celebrity to play, but I said
"Dude! Use the $2500 Adamas! Always use the expensive guitar when you can."

And here is me with one of them expensive guitars. I was getting ready to play, and they already a Red Adamas plugged-in so I just used that one.
But I came decked-out in the Club Colors...

Dude! Use the $2500 Adamas!

Actually it is a $5000 custom Adamas, but they were offering them for $2500.

Good use of Camo Art!

I really wish I could have made to PDX and I wish they could have made it to the Silverdale Ted Brown.
Wishes, fishes, whatever...

As far as access to the innards goes - the ratio of room needed is proportional to the size of your Hamfist and the diameter of your Forearm Calf muscle...
About One point smidge to One... have to check with Mr. Templeman for the exact figures.

Shameless Plug! David (DVD) just sent this to me. He taped this with his cell phone.

"Needle" at the Portland Roadshow

If I keep playing in front of people long enough I might get good at it.

I took the camera, but forgot to take it out of the backpack. Very nicely done. I really wanted that wood-topped Adamas, but left it for someone else. Good performances by the three, including Damon, performers. I should have, but figured I'd get out of there without embarassing myself preserved for posterity.
Too bad we had stereotypical Seattle weather until today, then flew back into it in Boise.
I think even SWMBO was impressed by the presentation.
