Location: SoCal | Interesting discussion that started 2 years ago. I just registered to talk about nylon strings on that thread, but I'll post here instead as it takes a day to get processed.
I tried a new string, D'Addario Pro Arte composites, EJ44C extra hard tension. I like the sound on my 1773LX acoustically. They really give the guitar a "pop" and the package says they'll last 2-3 times longer.
You also get, with the package, 2 G strings, one a regular string and the second (which is on the guitar) a composite string (whatever that is) that is supposed to give better balance between the bass and treble strings. All I know is that so far, I like these strings...... |

I use the D'Addario Classic strings, normal tension, with rectified nylon treble strings. 28's I really like the sound I get from these, what is the difference between the normal and hard tension strings. |

Kitmann, I could be wrong, but I always associate the nylon string tension (and they are nylon) with lights, mediums, etc of steel strings.
If somebody here knows more about this (Temp?), please clarify..... |

[/QB] While I would agree that there is a significant difference in tone when comparing ex-light, light and medium bronze strings on the same guitar, the same can not be said when comparing normal, hard and extra-hard tension nylon strings on a classical-type guitar. For me the difference is in feel only, I can't really perceive any tonal difference on my guitars regardless of tension. As a steel-string player I find normal tension nylon strings feel too wimpy. I can use either hard or extra hard tension and don't really notice a difference in feel between the two. A good classical player could, I guess. There is a school of though amongst classical guitarists and luthiers that extra-hard tension strings can actually impede soundboard motion on lightly built instruments. That would not be an issue on any Ovation nylon string.
I've been using the EJ44C set since they came out on my EA63, 1773LX and Godin Multiac. Right now I can't find anything better. The cores of the wound strings and the brown 3rd string are made from Zyex, a UK-developed polymer used for mono and multifilament fibres. As I understand it the 1st and 2nd strings are regular monofilament nylon. Zyex was first used in the music industy for orchestral strings until a few years ago when D'Addario started producing the Pro Arte composites. |

Thanks for the run down on the strings, I don't play them enough to even start to think about those kind of questions but it's good to know that information. |
