Hello all;

My wife is the owner of a Celebrity CS 257 with the OP24+ preamp, the one without the tuner.
I need to find out how it is removed from the guitar's bout, so I can repair the thing (I do that sort of stuff for a living).
It passes audio fine as long as the little graphic EQ is not inserted... might be the switch, a bad solder joint, a failed component, the list goes on.
However, until I can get it out and open it up, it just works... sort'a.
I've been to the Ovation website and left them a message and have searched the web for info... that's why I'm here.
A picture, a pointer, any help gratefully received!
Thanks for your time,
Stan

The face plate on the preamp is a piece of plastic that has to be removed to get to the screws that hold it together. Take off the slider knobs, then remove the plate under it. There is a small screw in each corner of the preamp. Remove those and the preamp will slide right out.

Good luck Scott

Scott, thank you!

Question: from what I've seen, the face plate looks to be more like a gummed back label, something which will be damaged when I remove it. Correct?
If so, perhaps it would be more advisable to only damage a small area in each of the corners covering the screwheads. Any thoughts?
I figure I could use one of those magnetic screw retrieval tools to pinpoint the exact location(s).

Stan,

I was VERY careful when I removed mine.

I took a popsicle stick (PS) and beveled one end on a bench grinder. I then lifted one corner of the label with an Exacto knife just enough to use the PS to 'pry' the label off without creasing or puncturing it.

Then I used lighter fluid to clean the label and the face plate. I used Elmer's contact cement for the reapplication.

I did have a small crease on the lifted corner but you'd have to look closely to see it.

Good luck!

Reading this thread made me remember something I saw while looking for something else in the parts bin.

I have an undamaged sticky-label for an OP 24+ - Volume, 3 buttons and 3 EQ sliders. Lemme know if you need it.

I always dropped mine on a concrete floor, everything popped right open, no problem.

Woody, thank you!

Once I've pulled it apart we'll know.

2ifbyC, thanks for the tip.

I kind'a got that same impression from the guy at the local guitar shop about having to peel up the label. I hate it when manufacturers are so... so arrogant as to believe that a device made by man will never need servicing. But for the addition of four small clearance holes...

Well, the deed is done!

The label did indeed need to be peeled off.
Used an old dental pick, one of those nasty looking bent tip guys and it did the job nicely, doing virtually no damage.
I was going to punch holes in it to allow access to the screws if needed again, but of course, one of the holes would have gone right through the "OP24"... naw, don't think so.
A German firm kindly provided me a PDF of the schematic and it was needed as the problem turned out to be a short in the mid-range slider to ground, throwing the amplifier's bias way off. Had to pop open the pot to clear it... don't recommend doing it that way, though, too many very small parts.
At any rate, I thought to share the schematic, but don't see a "files" section here, any thoughts on how to do that?
