Location: Colorado | I just visited my locally owned music store to get some Cleartone strings for David (he's got acid fingers) and some DR Sunbeams for me. Looked at an amp stand, too.
Then I saw the unthinkable. I looked across the room and saw some Ovation style epaulets on this guitar that was on the counter in a non-Ovation case. As I walked over I also noticed the bridge on this guitar was totally lifted off the top. I see the top under the bridge is stuck to the bridge so that the bracing can be seen through the hole that is where the bridge used to be. The top is also cracked most of the way to the binding starting at the low-E side of the bridge. Binding is intact, so I don't the guitar was dropped. Then I notice the lone fretboard icon on the 12th fret of the ebony fretboard and take some time to look past the bridge and inspect the top a little closer--figured redwood. 2001 Collector's Edition. Ugh.
There was an employee taking notes and pictures. He said he was going to call Ovation about the damage. I asked him if the owner was the original owner and he said he thought so. Boy I sure hope so. |

Location: Latitude 39.56819, Longitude -105.080066 | Might be constituted as misuse if the owner left it in the cold night air in the trunk of his car.....or dropped it a couple feet......or severely dried out in Colorado's low humidity.
Warranty won't cover that. |

There was no evidence that the guitar had been dropped on the edges of the bowl. Binding was all intact and not lifting anywhere. I did not look too closely to see if there was any evidence of the guitar being dropped on the face, but the headstock looked fine--no broken ears or evidence of being dropped on the headstock. I didn't look at the neck-joint either.
I did not inspect the case. I suppose the case could have been dropped with the guitar inside.
It will be interesting to see what the Mothership says about this particular situation. |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | It's just like cedar(a little softer though)... sounds really nice, but tends to dry out easily and become brittle. redwood DOES make a very nice substrate for sandblasted signs also (: |
