| Ok, The Connecticut factory now only does custom made Adamas and Ovations. Easy enough to understand. However...
1. Do foreign made models get sent there to be fixed?
2. Are previous American made models still going to be sent there to be repaired?
3. Are there other brands made there?
4. And, I suppose there is still the possibility
of limited editions, collector's being made there? (looking at the glass half full.) |

Location: SoCal | I doubt if Ovation and Adamas are going to go quietly into the good night. I would guess that there's more stuff coming from the mothership.
As for overseas guitars, Epiphone, Gretsch, and others make great guitars overseas. Don't be snobbish about this.
Lastly, there are several Guilds that I would love to own. Someday there may be a D-55 on my wall. They are making great guitars in CT. I just happen to be satisfied with what I have at the moment..... |

I have a really nice Indonesian Parker...
But USA Ovations were an affordable, dependable, great sounding, American Made guitar.
Now it will become just another mass-produced "product" from a foreign factory.
The concept that "it doesn't matter where it is made" is the excuse the the rich f@cks have used to export all our jobs and stripped the soul outta guitar manufacturing.
Do you think that Leo Fender expected that the best Stratocasters would be made in Mexico?
And I am not saying that those Korean workers are not Proud of the guitars that they produce.
But it just ain't the Same! |

Location: Phoenix AZ | They are making some OUTSTANDING Guilds in New Hartford. I have bought three of them. A D40 dreadnaught, an F412 maple 12-string, and their recent OM sized limited edition F30-GSR. Each amazing in their own right.
The F30 especially is really a stunning guitar. Only 20 made. During the last tour it was the one model that nobody could put down. I only got to play it for about 2 minutes but that was enough to make up my mind to seek one out and buy it.
The sunburst finishes that Guild is doing are also really nice. They have inherited the Ovation technique. I'm with Moddy, a D55 will be in my future (sunburst).
You can lament the demise of Ovation production in New Hartford, but at least the skills have been kept intact and just redirected to a different design. I'm sure the workers are far less concerned with what they build and just happy to be employed building something.
If you have a chance to try a New Hartford Guild you may be pleasently surprised. |

A D55 Sunburst would also sound and look incredible at my house......maybe down the road after I get a few other monetary details straighten out. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | The D-TAR actually sounds really nice. Doesn't have the flexibility of the OP-Pro or CoolTube and the end pin assembly is pretty ugly. But sound is very good indeed. |

Keeping Ovation usa numbers low in this economy may be a smart move.

You've got the shoe on the wrong foot. This only happens if the buyers don't care where the guitar is made. If the market cared enough to pay what it costs for a USA made guitar, they'd still be in production. Economics 101 = the buyer is always the one who decides where their purchase is manufactured. You wanna blame someone, make sure it's the real culprit. |

what the govt should do is put tariffs on the imported crap so it would be more profitable to make stuff here and to make it illegal to have a business here but have it incorporated off shore so your profits are not taxable. |

they usually work for less wages and not in legitimate companies so I don't see how it would effect ovation or other major corporations directly.
except maybe outside contractors for cleaning lawn service etc etc etc |
