Location: Montana | Hey everybody, I've just about convinced myself that I need a loop station. Here's what I think it would be useful for:
1) laying down rhythm and percsussion tracks to jam to for practicing solos
2) doing similar for jamming with my wife (vocals) and son (drums)
3) could even record the family band for solo practice later
4) loading up with backing tracks etc
5) my "band in a box" for busking .... (not likely)
I've been leaning toward the Digitech Jamman stereo, it has mic and std guitar inputs, cd/mp3 input, stereo outputs and can hold 200 tracks totalling about 16 hrs of stuff. Plus it is blue. Anyone have any thoughts, opinions, recommendation or wild-eyed speculations on this selection?
I know that the Idea pre-amp can do some of this but a pedal would be more versatile in that it can be used with any and all of my guitars, electronic drums, keyboards, mics etc. rather than being devoted to 1 guitar. |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | I use a Boss RC-20XL. Not as full featured as the Digi Jamman, but very easy to use when playing live, and an important piece of gear when practicing solo leads. I use it to lay down the rhythm track, then practice solo stuff on top. It isn't so much to memorize a lead, but rather, as Brad Davis says, to become secure in my point of reference on the fretboard. You still end up ad libbing in performance, but you go into it more secure knowing where you need to be. |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | I was looking at the larger boss model, but the $400+ price tag just wasn't worth it to me at the time. Eventually I'll pick one up used. Right now I want a Vocalist 4. I need that more than the looper. |

Location: Corning, NY | If you're not set on a really long loop time, the Akai Headrush E2 is hands-down the easiest to time and also doubles as a really nice tape delay emulator. KT Tunstall uses one a lot. It only gives about 24 seconds of loop time, though. On the other hand, you can pick them up used for under $130.
As for the Jamman and the Boss, I like both, and definitely get a two-button model. The single ones are tempting for the price, but a pain to sync IMO. |

Besides the 16 hour capacity, 99 levels, stereo inputs and computer interface.....
"Time Stretch" features ensures the punch in and out fit the time signature you are working in.

Location: SW Washington | I have a JamMan and I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only drawback is it has to be plugged in. Won't run on batteries :-( So if you are not going to be standing on a street corner it would be my first choice... else you will have to figure out a way to power it from the cig lighter in your car or something, lol. But seriously, this thing is awesome! I have had it about a year and I am still learning about things it can do. |
