Happiest of holidays!
It's been too long since I've posted here!
I hope all is well with everybody!
So...
Did anyone get anything nice from Santa this year?
Ovation or other?
I bought myself a couple nice Gretsch guitars that I had on layaway for about 2 years...
Nothing other than that though!
How about all ya'll?
All the best in 2o11 my friends!

I'm very pleased with the Zoom Q3HD.
Up to 1080p video with the zoom quality sound recorder.
But most of all, it's easy it use. I've bought and then sold a couple units because the operating menues were fragmented, overly complicated, and difficult to navigate.
This will be a good learning tool for recording practice sessions and gigs and will also work well for vacations and family use. |

Beats a lump of coal, anyway.
Note to self: Get off Santa's "dookey list"!

We gave to a couple of worthwhile charities instead.
I do plan to get one of those Zoom Q3HD recorders later in 2011. |

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Wow! Was THAT ever fraught with innuendo!
Oh, yes...a ukelele for me, and a Wii for Alex, and clothing and posters for Diana. Santa made us all happy. |

Of course, the Thang's bolts don't match up to a 1980 circa Japanese combo, so I had to pull the cover off, remove the bolts, redrill and reinstall the bolts, recover the speaker cloth.
Tonight I hope to bolt the baffle back on, and hook up the speaker. I'll let you know how it goes. |

3. The cake plate that matches my antique English tea set (this one made me get all teary)
4. A gift certificate to Lowe's to buy paint for both bedrooms, which desperately need redoing.
The best gift is the news that my son and daughter-in-law are moving back from PA, so they will only be about 40 minutes away, as opposed to 2 hours...
A very good Christmas, indeed.

MJK I loved the "nothing other than the two Gretsch guitars..." thing. Wasn't that enough?!?!?
I LOVE my Gretsch 6117, but to have TWO MORE similar guitars would make it a REALLY GREAT CHRISTMAS!
Congrats, MJK! |

Since I typically do the "this will count for the next(blank)presents, I suspect I'm still working off the last several guitars, the latest of which was the 2010 Collector, which probably counts for Anniversary and Christmas.
I did get a book on Eva Cassidy from my daughter and spent a nice rainy day in Portland reading it. That's the first time in years that I've spent any time reading a book, so that was nice. Our baby leaves for Haiti tonight, so coming back safely is all we want. |

My adult kids are all broke, so, like it has been for the past five years, Christmas was pretty much all one way out, with the grand children appearing to be the big winners, which is pretty much how we believe it ought to be. |

I also mangaged to sneak a MusicMan Stingray into the collection without too much discomfort. Seems spending 4 months away from home gives me some leeway. |

What a STUPID idea huh? ... After over two weeks passed and I suffered a minor stroke, while stressing out, the envelope came back in the mail and apparently the sorter misread it. I then overnighted it to Ryan (RNickels), who was very patiently waiting (THANK YOU AGAIN!). It arrived the day before Chrismas, and all was well again in the Vincent homestead (: |

| No guitars, but I did get a bottle of wine called Red Guitar. After you go to their website and enter in your age (I was magically 21 again), a cartoon character comes on the screen and it plays flamenco music.
Red Guitar Wine
Other than that, I got the usual stuff -- clothes, money and an Entertainment book.
My 13 year old niece, however, got a nice present from her parents. They gave her a honey colored Squier six string electric, along with her father's old Vox amp.

You can see why I wrote software for a living and not songs.
my reference to NATO rounds... ammunition adopted by NATO as a standard for use among its peacekeeping forces (surely a more accurate definition is out there)... the 9mm is a NATO handgun bullet, MolonLabe's 5.56x45mm is better known as a 5.56 NATO rifle bullet. NATO has a whole database of adopted ammunition (small to real big) along with detailed specifications for each one.
We've been Metric here for a long time... we just prefer to keep doing it the hard way. |

… for a second I thought wooden roundbacks were coming back.
" Nato wood is a collective name for wood from Mora trees. The best-known species are Mora excelsa (Mora) and Mora gonggrijpii (Morabukea), with the latter contributing less (occurring in a smaller area).
The wood may vary in appearance, with reddish brown being the dominant color, but in varying shades and often with darker or lighter streaks. The wood is dense and not particularly pleasant; it is not very easy to dry or to work. However, the wood is available in large dimensions and is well above average in properties such as resistance to wear, strength and durability. It finishes well. It is used for heavy construction, industrial flooring, railroad ties, etc. Smaller billets are used to build acoustic and electric guitars.
Because of its availability and price, many Chinese and Korean imported guitars use nato in their inexpensive guitars. BC Rich guitars,[1] Eastwood guitars[2] and others manufacturers often refer to nato as "eastern mahogany" due to the use of the more expensive mahogany wood in higher grade instruments" |
