Location: south east Michigan | It may take a while but the transition to the deep contour bowl as standard will do nothing but help Ovation's reputation as an un-plugged instrument. But it will be a loooong process that will have to be nursed along with a good dose of public relations.
I think it was Dave, when the contour bowl first came out, who predicted that eventually the "old" deep & shallow bowls will someday become a special order. I'll bet he is right. |

From the manufacturers perspective building and selling guitars is a business. CB removes two common objections that non-ovation fans voice - "it slips off my knee" and "it rolls up and points to the sky when I play standing."
I KNOW ... NON OF US HERE ON THE OFC HAVE THESE ISSUES, SO SPARE ME THE PM's
BUT, if those are reasons that others do not gravitate to "our" guitars, and if the Contour Bowl solves those issues very nicely with no degradation in sound vs. a roundback deep bowl than it should be a no-brainer that the CB will become the defacto standard.
Personally I'd like to see what they could do with a semi shallower version of the CB for a plugged in guitar. THAT might be kind of cool.
I'm not always right (sadly) but this time I hope I am because I really think the CB could open up the market for more Ovation sales, and how could THAT not be a good thing for all of us.

Location: Steeler Nation, Hudson Valley Contingent | Smack me with a chair if you must, but I and my 200 pound self prefer the deep bowl to the contour bowl. Otherwise I'd have kept my '05C. If they made one with the deep bowl I'd snack it up like a lays potato chip. |

My KoaT is the first mid-bowl I've ever owned.
Someday I'll own some type of the contour bowl. Hopefully with the VIP. |

LP guys never thought 8-tracks would catch on. 8-trackers laughed when those silly little cassettes came out. My 200-cassette collection (which I can't even give away) has been gathering dust on a garage shelf for years. Most of our CD collection lies in scratchy heap and my daughter only tolerates her iPod as a stopgap measure until she gets an iPhone.
Round-back Ovations? In 20 years we can go see 'em in museums next to buggy whips and slide rules. |

Location: big island | i have a contour bowl on my eliteT. deep bowls on the 1537 and 1688. the difference between rounded and contour backs is inconsequential to me. i don't experience any advantage with the contour and neither shape leans against a wall or the bathtub very well.
i sure like the sound that comes outta them though. |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | I'm with Randy on the CB vs. a deep bowl. Makes no difference to me whatsoever. Both rank lower in comfort when compared to the SSB, which also is easier to handle and less cumbersome in tight confines on a crowded stage.
Brad, Al also has some Koala models that meet your requirements. |

Location: SoCal | IMHO, I agree with the "no difference to me". When I've been playing a deep bowl and then pick up the 2005C - now even aware that it is a contour.
If the contour has advantages in construction, marketing, or to some players - great. Unless it is an Adamas hand-layed, the type of back is not a factor for me...appearance, playability, "voice".
I wouldn't even be surprised to see a 2nd generation contour bowl in the future. |
