Very saddened to hear this news... One of the most recognizable voices of his era.

Is there anyone, anywhere that hasn't heard and enjoyed "Baker Street"?

RIP Gerry

I wonder if that Adamas from the Baker Street sessions ever sold. Did anyone here get it? I seem to remember maybe it went to France??

We did "Stuck In The Middle" at our New Years Eve show. If he'd had the foresight to check out a few days earlier it would have made for a nicely topical song introduction.

Reportedly he was earning £80K a year just off the royalties from Baker St. So at least the alcholism and subsequent liver failure wasn't due to the cheap stuff. Small mercies.

Anyone who can write just one instantly recognisable iconic song which has lasted decades is undoubtedly talented. But two? At least. Wow. Kinda humbling, or even "Humblebumming" for anyone who can remember that far back.

Yeah, now there's a shock. He joins a long list of Scottish musicians who have imbibed a little too liberally. Fortunately I only live there, so I have an advantage.

Joking aside... the drinking culture in Scotland is scary. And that's coming from me......

Yeah, good one.

I just went back and listened to the first few tracks of "City To City" and the songs are still great but the production sounds really, really dated. I couldn't get through the whole album. Strange that there's other stuff from around then and earlier that still sounds killer.

You should send that guitar to OMA and have him paint Rafferty's face on it.

WOW! ... I had completely forgotten him and his music. As I sat and listened again to Baker Street, I realized that I was that guy who dreamt of buying some land, moving away from the city to forget about it all. I bought the land and moved, but could never forget about it all. Great songs, great musician, sad ending.

I have to agree that some of the stuff sounds dated, but that song Baker Street is an icon; wonderful melody and a great sax solo. One of those perfect pop songs. You stand back and look at it, and you say it shouldn't be, but it is.

Wow Paul...glad you dug up the FB page with your superior sleuthing skills!

I see why you get the medium bucks!

Baker Street and the Steeler's Wheel stuff was great and deserves to be remixed/mastered.

I remember that, at the time, I liked "Star". Then I re-listened to it.... sounds like there's a kazoo being played. Otherwise it's pretty good song.

I believe I heard on an oldies station that the "triple High" (dont know that the correct term) C in the sax solo of Bakers Street was the highest note ever played in a number 1 song ever .
